I'm surprised by this move but I ain't complainin'.
Big NV Union Backs Obama
They have been talking about backing him for some time. After Hillary's win last night some of them were having second thoughts.
Second thoughts about whom? The announcement was made today. They were hoping to endorse Edwards but decided he wasn't a viable candidate and switched to Obama.
UNITE would never have endorsed Clinton because of the Mark Penn/Cintas situation -- however it's hard not to be a little skeptical about the timing. Add to that Richardson withdrawing and Maureen Dowd, harsh critic that she has always been but today's "Can Hillary Cry Herself to the White House?' Op-Ed-- makes me wonder if she hasn't given in to the merry bank of HillHaters led by Chris Matthews rabid, uncontrollable, drooling desire to drum her out of this race and someone more paranoid and less experienced than I could make a case that the Old Boys Club is closing ranks to protect the integrity of the phallus claims on the "highest office in the land".
Nevada Culinary Workers are a major union endorsement?
this is gigantic, liv! that union represents 60,000 people in nevada! nevada!!!
nevada!!!
"Second thoughts about whom? The announcement was made today."
Duh!
Nevada union torn on Dem endorsement
60,000 members just in Las Vegas -- yep it's friggin huge.
Since identity/gender politics are in full swing now, I'll add that this particular union has a large number of Hispanic members. The HRC camp switched to its ground game just before the Iowa caucuses by announcing that El Mundo the state's largest Spanish-language newspaper had given HRC its endorsement. El Mundo has a weekly circulation of over 35,000. The story came in under the radar of most mainstream media and the punditry. Good job Team Obama.
HRC camp announces El Mundo endorsement
ok, the reason it's a big deal is that it's not just the culinary workers of nevada, it's their parent union: unite here that reps 450,000 workers in the us and canada.
papa -- and if UNITE went with Obama-- then it's only a matter of days until all of the Change to Win unions follow suit. The most interesting part will be waiting to see if they pull the trigger before NV or between the caucus and Super Tuesday.
didn't they all go for dean in '04 too?
Yep along with the national AFL-CIO -- all before even Iowa! At least they kind of learned the lesson that the media hasn't yet....at least this time they waited for 1/2% of the population had their say right?
Coming out of NH the punditry claimed that Obama didn't have the support the traditional core Dem base, just indies and kids mainly. I now add Juan Williams (NPR/FoxNews) to my personal list of pundits I most dislike after suggesting subliminally that Obama can't pass some sort of "negritude test" in SC.
Well the kids support of Obama true enough....
but since they historically get energized but not mobilized people must be getting really nervous.
Listen javero the fact is the media was excited about him for a moment before he and Hillary stomped Edwards into the ground last night and showed real viability and reality set in and they freaked out about him as they have been about Hillary....we should expect more and more of this coming out of their mouths to try and rattle voters into supporting the nice safe comfortable stuffy white guy.
God bless both Iowans and New Hampshire-ites for refusing to play into their hands. We can only hope NV, SC and Fla will all follow suit.

"Obama can't pass some sort of "negritude test" in SC."
This is a serious statement someone said?
Oy.
I paraphrase here but he has stated two nights running that black leaders in SC have maintained their support of HRC before comparing the coming HRC-Obama showdown to a contest between Oprah Winfrey and Angela Davis, a likable black woman and one not so much so, his characterization not mine.
I'll try to get soft copies of the transcript.
and we see how powerful unite isn't as the carpet bagger takes nevada.
