um,..yeah ...if you consider she hasn't had a hit since 1986 .

What does not having a hit since 1986 have to do with being a class act?
It has nothing to do with hits. Cyndi has produced some FANTASTIC music over the years. Her "hits" are my least favorites. She is amazing in concert. One of the best live performers I have ever seen.

You're not going to get an argument from me there JerseyGirl2. Cyndi Lauper is an amazing live performer and is blessed with a great set of pipes! Immensely talented and gifted!
I bought tickets to see Cher having NO idea that Cyndi would be the one to blow me away. There's no huge stage show. There's just talent. I saw them together four times and by the second show, I was looking more forward to Cyndi than Cher. (and I am a Cher fan from birth.)

No doubt that CYndi has pipes. she's beautifully trained and i do own some cyndi albums...even the recent one.
But Madonna is the clear winner when it comes to amount of work and productivity and her contributions to the pop world in terms of music and its ranges...from r&b, to rock, to pop ballads, movie soundtracks and electronica, house, dance techno..has been solid for 25 years.
with over 60 #1 dance hits...she does dominate that field.
her contributions to pushing the envelope...
the way she handles her career..is now a blueprint for today's artists. they all want to have a solid steady career like M.
she's put about 15 albums out there...all with solid material.
she's influenced fashion a zillion times.
she's mastered the craft of music videos...which many artists still try to copy.
and her tours are phenomenal experiences.
she can dance and sing her heart out for 2 hrs straight.
it's not just like going to a concert..it's an event.
she's broken records that toppled elvis and the beatles.
as a woman in the music industry....she's the one to look upto.
i just get tired of people beating on her..when she has been so successful for so long..and not put out to pasture as other artists. other artists just follow her lead...
Cyndi's new album is a cheap imitation (and badly produced) version of Madonna's CONFESSIONS on a DANCEFLOOR from 2006.
M is a victim of ageism and sexism...
and we should just celebrate one of our own...instead of beating her down.
what she has done alone for women...and sexuality...and being in control of your career...feminism, women in pop/rock music industry, fashion, music video, combining art with music as a visual performer...
and what amazing discipline and shape she's in at 50...it should be commended.
thats the problem with the american public in general.
fickle and jaded.

No one here said Cyndi was more successful, just that she is preferred.

I'll stick with madonna. More body of work to play with a wider range of styles.
