I've met straight gals butcher than Eastwood, I've met queer gals who were as willowy as a dandelion.
Just suggesting that maybe she's breakin' on through to the other side only temporarily. In college, we called such women "big LUG's" (Lesbian Until Graduation). Why oh why are women so disposed to explore the lesbos side of their personality, but I can only rarely get a cute straight boy to make out with me? Its' disgraceful! I'm going to go fling myself crying, face-down into my pillow, fifties actress-style now.

Robbiej, as usual you beat me to it. Anyone famous coming out is a big deal. When there are so many many closeted people in the public eye and so much homophobia and anti gay legislation around, then the higher the visibility the better.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

We need more MALE celebrities to come out of the closet. Lesbians are already becoming seen as very nice, non threatening people while gay men are still evil incarnate.

Why are things like this black or white. Isn't it entirely possible that Anne Heche and Cynthia Nixon are BIsexual? People always forget bisexuality when things like this happen.

More critically -- and not to open a recent open wound at this board -- but this is a positive in the way that the McGreevey "self-identification" was a negative. The Gov of NJ opened up under public scrutiny, facing potential blackmail, and La Nixon just ... opened up. Hey, nobody's suing her, or threatening a tell-all book; she merely found love. Heche or no Heche, it's a plus for The Cause, and she'll be the better poster child for all things bi/gay, so let's cheer her. Plus, Cynthia Nixon, beautiful, talented, emmy winnger, class act, a mother, an upper west sider, what's not to love?
