Honestly...what is this man talking about?
I just realized I posted this on the wrong board...I'm THAT angry at this man's assertion that DREAMGIRLS is a flimsy musical.
And I forgot to add the link.
DREAMGIRLS
he must be a moron.

Does this guy have ANY background in theatre at all? That's one of the more ludicrous things I've ever heard asserted - about anything.
Eh, I like the show and admire it's ambitions but I've always thought it cops out of resolving itself. It just ... ends, with everyone basically saying 'oh, the hell with all that, let's just sing.'
well, the article is from the Daily News -- consider the source Robbie....(and breath sweetie...in with the good, out with the bad....)

Good people get rewarded, bad people get punished and all parties are reminded of what's important. Pretty good resolution in my book.
Flimsy is a bizarre choice of word, I think.
Flimsy is one word I would not use to describe this show, even though I've only seen it with a definitely flimsy star... Frenchie Davis.

Yes, consider the source, robbie, as K had mentioned...

Either he genuinely believes this, in which case I'm sorry for him, or he's the type who has to disparage one thing in order to make his favorite seem good- that is, he put down Dreamgirls to make the subject of his article, Holliday, look better, because he's too weak or unconfident of a writer to do it otherwise.
I'd just like to say that I'm now off the ledge because of all y'all's kindness.

of course, that means you can join us with the pitchforks and torches to go after the idiot?
I love hugz!
And drugz.
Lynch mob! Yeay!
robbie has drugz? *hugz*
you better be giving me more than a hug if you want some of my stash.
a reach-around would be appreciated.
did i really just type that?

Certainly more to it than that. Lorrell leaves Jimmy Early, Deena leaves Curtis, Effie presses charges against Curtis. Many of their dreams are shattered. But they reunite as proof that hardly anything is more important than family. I remember every time I saw it (well over 50 times on Broadway) the audience was totally wrapped up in what was happening with these characters. It was extremely emotional.
*hugs*
*reaches around*
robbie..you should know me better than that...I always reach around..with both hands.

Boobs, be careful, I'm already in front of him.

"cast-album version slightly streamlined for radio-friendliness"
If that's not an understatement I don't know what is!!!
And was this whole article written to bash Jennifer Holliday?!
