Mandingo, Desperate Characters, The Possession of Joel Delaney, and King of the Gypsies are all being released on June 3rd.

you have no idea how sad it makes me to see that in print. especially since the season never truly ended. the show just got canceled.

They keep pushing Casino Royale back, I guess they're trying to tie in with Quantum Of Solace this fall.


Desperate Characters has been pushed back until 7/1

Also, last month The Boys In The Band was listed. It is now shelved until further notice.

it looks like paramount home entertainment is raiding their releases from the 1970s. alot of their output from the '70s has made it to dvd this year.

interesting that two perry king/paramount films make it to dvd for the first time on june 3rd: 'mandingo' and the 'possession of joel delaney'.

'possession' came out a full year before 'the exorcist' and starred shirley maclaine. according to william peter blatty he based the character of chris macneil in 'the exorcist' after maclaine. he knew her from having worked with her on the film 'john goldfarb, please come home'. he offered the role of chris macneil to maclaine but she declined having already completed 'the possession of joel delaney'.

I actually just saw that Possession was coming out on Friday. I had never heard of it before, but I love those 70s thrillers (The Entity, The Fury, etc) b/c it seemed like people really believed in such paranormal events back then. They're all done with such earnest that I just can't resist!

Btw, in regards to studios scraping the barrell for releases: how is it possible that The African Queen, a bona fide classic, remains in the vault.

Taz, DIVA isn't a Criterion release. It is something called a Meridian release, whatever that means.

Diva is a very good movie, and Wilhelmina Wiggins Fernandez (as the Diva) is fantastic. Her beautiful face and that voice will blow you away.



She came to my university in 1984 (3 years after this film) and gave a concert. I'll never forget it.

Ha! MANDINGO!!!! Perry King is still one of the hottest of the seventies hotties. And I believe he does full frontal in this. Either way, it'll be good times to watch James Mason using a small black child as an ottoman again.
