I saw the trailer today at KING KONG -- it looks -- well, like a mediocre action thriller, which truth be told is what the novel is -- I'm sure critics will go to town over Hanks (who is indeed miscast) - but I think the film will be fun. I just don't want to hear people screaming OSCAR beore its actually released - it doesn't seem like that kind of flick, regardless of how popular the book is
I usually see everything Ian McKellen is in, but I hated this book, and I hate Ron Howard, so I'm going to pass on this. Besides, I feel like I've seen the movie anyway: I've been to all the landmarks and seen all the paintings featured in the book, so the trailer just looks exactly as I had imagined when I read it. The book plays out like a mediocre thriller film anyway, so Howard is not going to surprise me with anything.
Eponine, I'd recommend reading "Angels and Demons" as well. I found it to be a far more compelling story.
I am still bitter than Gary Sinise isn't Langdon.
oooh Patronus, I never thought of Gary Sinise but he would be absolutely perfect... at this point I would have liked anyone over Tom Hanks.... he just has absolutely no relation to the character description nor character of Langdon
I'm not a fan of Tom Hanks. I think he's totally miscast here. My choice would have been Liam Neeson for this role. I enjoyed the book, however, this seems mediocre at best.
When I was reading the books it was always Gary Sinise for me. Even through the "looks sort of like Harrison Ford" moments, it was still Sinise.
Sophie was always Franke Potente, but I don't a problem with the casting in the film.
The location shots are wonderful...
Agree that Tom Hanks is totally miscast. (I envisioned Colin Firth). But, I still plan to see it...
Yeah, Hanks is so not Langdon. I rather like the Sinise idea...never thought of that one.
The trailer was worth it just to see Audrey Tautou.
Also had the trailer before King Kong today only it was slightly different to the one online. Apparently us Brits aren't up to watching scenes of self flagellation and thigh torturing before a 3 hour movie about an ape.
Did you give your King Kong thoughts somewhere, Poppy? Yes, to Gary Sinise, no to Tom Hanks! No to THE DA VINCI CODE.
Not yet, but I will. I've been sidetracked by legal issues and visas momentarily.

And yet I've seen DVDs of those same acts on sale on London's Old Compton Street.
Hahahaha.
