It sounds to me like the producers liked Frank Wildhorn's idea for WONDERLAND:

Take the story, make it a long-lost descendent in the same place with the same characters, and just make the title the imaginery place where it occurs.

mtvmann, she already tried that in 'hounddog' and it didn't get her an oscar so she has to try something else now.
