I dislike generalizations, intensely.
By the way....
When I saw Brokeback I was seated next to a couple of gay men who were obnoxious. They cheered, talked loudly and had quite public displays of over-the-top affection throughout the film. I eventually moved my seat.
I then sat next to a couple of elderly ladies who were quiet, and remarked to eachother at the end of the movie how beautiful it was.
I saw the film in NYC.
I'm sorry your theatre going experience was so disappointing, Elphaba. Inappropriate audience reactions which detract from the enjoyment of a theatre experience (movie or live theatre) is one of my biggest pet peeves.
Thank you Addy for a touch of perspective...

You should have bitch-slapped them Addy - or strangled them with their boas
but, wait, how can this be? i thought that brokeback was going to change the face of american culture and usher in a new era of acceptance and tolerance. can it be that the transformative power of the film is lost on some?

Everyone was well behaved at the screenings of Brokeback, Narnia and Harry Potter we attended during the holiday at the Kips Bay complex.
PalJoey'sPal and I have noticed that since we've been going to Kips Bay, we actually enjoy moviegoing again.
At Narnia on Christmas Day, we watched Tina Brown and Harry Evans (hardly Mr and Mrs Average American!) struggling with their kids. Obviously they had to give the Nanny the day off for the holiday! Harry and Tina didn't have the foggiest idea how things like popcorn and ticket stubs worked.
