I want to thank you for sitting in front of me at Brokeback Mountain today.
You showed me that there are idiots who SILL makes fools of themselves at movies.
You showed me that there are STILL mature couples who know better, yet resort to whispering ugly things when they see two men having sex.
And you showed me that there are people who leave a movie minutes into it because they have no tolerance past their own bigoted little noses.
Did you think this was a family movie....Brokeback Mountain, Swiss Family Robinson.....yeah, sure I can see how you made that mistake.
Nope, I think you heard that this was an amazing movie, perhaps destined for major awards, and wanted to see it, yet knowing nothing about it.
So, when it didn't fit your values, or morals as warped as they are.....instead of giving it a chance and trying to experience something new....you run like the cowards you are.
I'm sure tomorrow at church you'll tell all the rest of your herd what a sick and disgusting movie it is.
Morons.....Idiots. YOU are why these movies are made.
SHAME ON YOU......and thank YOU for getting your big fat heads of of my vision.
as an aside, we loved the movie....made us sad, angry, and frankly was surprised by the ending, although I should not have been....but one of the best acting jobs by both actors I have seen in years.
Oh, and to the really cool grandmother type behind me...thanks for tapping me on the shoulder when the morons fled the theater, and saying......"they have blinders on".
thank YOU for getting your big fat heads of of my vision. - LOL!

That last paragrap was close to a perfect ending Elphaba.
People act like asses at EVERY movie. That's why I tend to wait for the DVDs these days.

Elph - I try desperately not to think that's the 'average American' - but some days it does seem like it, doesn't it?
When we went, there were a couple of Marines from Pendleton who had been dragged there by their girlfriends. The nervous laughter was right on cue during the obvious moments. When I saw them in the restroom afterwards, I told them their giglling sounded like schoolgirls, but that it fit the sterotype of the Marines I had encountered in bed - but the giggling was usually muffled by a pillow.
It helped that I was a good foot taller than they were, and that they were surrounded at that point by a bunch of not very amused gay men
Rath....this movie must be seen on the big screen, as I think it would lose something if not.

When I saw it, the audience was actually okay. But there was this one guy with a guitar case who came in in the middle, sat down for about 10 minutes, and left again. What, was he sampling different screens?
lol DG, I would have LOVED to see that...although the marines I experienced when I lived in San Diego were always face down....and they were not giggling.
And you're right this was, I hope, not the average American couple.......I just hadn't expected that.
Elph, so many should. I've stayed away from the theaters (except art houses) for years. I'm tired of paying all that money to be annoyed and distracted from the movie.
DG, that was beautiful!! I wish I could have been there.
Lucky me. I saw it at the Esquire Theatre on Oak Street in Chicago and we had a perfect audience.
I hear you Rath. Fortunately the theater nearest me (not where Brokeback was) gets such small audiences it's not a problem. This theater today was a dump, not even stadium seating, in Palm Desert....and I won't go there agin. The bathrooms were filthy, was way too hot, and was a real dump.
"What a dump!"
I agree with Rath. I simply can't enjoy a film in a theatre-except, sometimes if you go to the earliest showing, at about noon or soon after-sometims it's almost empty. In those cases, I LOVE the movies-that's when I can get transported entirely to a different world. If there are almost no other people in there.

G - that is a nice theater. I was on Michgan Avenue entertaining friends at tourist spots, Pizzeria Uno, ESPN, etc.
E - sorry about your experience. I have not seen the movie. I did see Rent with my girls, sisters and nieces and had a great family experience which I will not forget. Raise your kids right and they will accept all people!

This surprised me where we were - the Hillcrest section of San Diego - VERY gay oriented. Oh well, they won't forget their trip to the theatre!
Actually, if they're like most of the Marines I've known, they probably talked about it in bed later that night! (I think Elph and I might have met a couple of the same ones )
DG, I wouldn't be suprised at all........

E - to change the subject - sorry about the Ducks - I was on vacation during the bowl games!
brd, thanks. Still it was a really fun night.....and I don't think I've ever seen so many Duck fans outside of Oregon......well, except for the Fiesta Bowl some years back. If you want me to send you the kodak.com link to the pix I took, PM me your email address.....they came out pretty good.
I may be out of a loop here, but what was remarkable about your companion? I'm assuming that others here know what you mean, but for those who don't...
Oh, I see, what are we talking about a mixed race couple? (wooooo, scary!) That's what I'm inferring.
Wait a minute-that's prying into your business, never mind, lol.

I, on the other hand, imagine Undi was partying it up with someone just this side of Richard Simmons.
My sister and I had to lie and tell my parents we were going to see the Narnia movie, because they wouldn't let us out of the house if they knew what movie we were actually seeing.
Then again, at least my parents have the sense to not go to a movie they don't agree with in the first place.
While I am glad to see so many films having gay characters these past few years, it HAS made going to the movies a lot of work. I can't stand having to listen to ignorant people laugh or make puke noises or comments while I am trying to enjoy a film.
This is why I had to walk out of Wedding Crashers (which wasn't very good anyway). That horrid scene in the bedroom sent a bunch of guys into hysterics. I couldn't stand it.
I know it's part of people being exposed to us--part of what is hopefully a process toward progress. But I don't want to have to witness it--especially off guard.
Luckily, I saw Brokeback the first night in NYC at the theatre in Chelsea. No puke noises, thankfully.
LOVE your story, DG, and I share your pain, Elphaba.
For the past few years, I go to the movie theater on early afternoon. It is almost empty and I enjoy my movies without the stupid assholes shouting remarks and making fun, without the cellphones ringing, without the straight couples making out and without the idiots explaining the movie to their friend ! It's either that or the DVD for me !
