Death to animated GIFs!

Posted: 6/1/13 at 10:59pmJane, it's actually really easy. Many people use Tumblr, but I prefer google images. You just type (whatever you're looking for) gif and if you're on a mobile device you copy it and paste it in the browser or address bar, then you cut the address that appears and paste it in the optional image box here in BWW. If you're on a computer it's even easier, you just right click the gif and click copy image address.

"How sad is that???
It's for people who can't come up with an original thought on their own, so they have to copy/paste something from an outside source to land a wisecrack for them."
Really though, how melodramatic. The gif is one of the best communicative tools on the internet. Embrace it.

Just for Cumberbitchy giggles, here is Benedict Cumberbatch trying to describe what a gif is.
Slightly move-y thing

Posted: 6/2/13 at 9:29pmPersonally, I think we get about 100 uncreative, inane and/or stupid written responses to every animated gif, so I'm not sure it's about one over the other. At least the gifs can be visually amusing.

Posted: 6/2/13 at 10:14pmI don't hate them. I think a handful of people do overuse them, but like Matt was saying, I'd don't find a lack of creativity to be exclusive to gifs. I do find gifs best suited to threads about tv shows.

Posted: 6/2/13 at 10:21pmNot to compare rotten oranges to scrumptious apples, but when you whip up something like Kyle in Heaven, it shows creativity, wit and ingenuity. Most of the reprinted GIFs come off sixth-rate.

Posted: 6/2/13 at 10:58pmHonestly? The GIF in the use that was popularized by image boards and Tumblr is the spiritual successor to the emoticon. And Reddit is making them even more prolific. Emoticons had the exact problems that you're describing with GIFs, but what are you going to do other than turn off images in your web browser.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, do animated GIFs.

Posted: 6/10/13 at 11:22pmI've found the use of gifts to be tiresome. There are a few posters who seem to only add gifs. I feel like I know nothing about them, their opinions, and likes/dislikes because every post is a picture that seems to be an attack on someone else in the thread.

I just go with the belief that there is nothing to know about them.
