Please let it decline in NYC. Especially on the UWS.

I think kids are great.
It's their parents I cannot stand.

Posted: 5/25/05 at 11:57amWe raise our three kids in the city and have no plans to moving to the burbs. I love the diversity of culture and people. And, my kids thrive here.

I grew up in a big city, and I wouldn't have traded the experience for the world. The city offers so much culture, diversity, entertainment and education for children.
The worst, absolute worst place to raise your kids, IMO, is the suburbs. I'm living in the suburbs right now; I've never met more spoiled, bored, rowdy and disobedient children and teenagers, ever.

That was my youth. I never wanted that for my kids. That is one of the main reasons I want to continue to raise my kid in the city.

I grew up in the 'burbs and it's not so bad.
You can have "spoiled, bored, rowdy and disobedient children and teenagers" anywhere. It's based on parenting, not location. But I do plan on moving to NYC the second I graduate from college and would love to stay there and raise a family in the city. I do agree that it provides lots of opportunities that the suburbs don't.

Posted: 5/25/05 at 5:40pmThe weirdest part about kids in NYC is how late you'll see the littlest ones out with their parents. I find that bizarre.

I agree. I see these stupid parents schlepping their kids on the subway at midnight.
And children completely ruined Tavern on the Green! Last time I was there, there were two birthday parties going on. Balloons, clowns and all. They should have been at Chuck E. Cheese where they belong.

Maybe I'm just getting really nostalgaic for the city, but part of what I loved about the UWS WAS the doggies and kiddies.
I know, shoot me now.
(But as a suburbanite by birth, I see major advantages to growing up in a city.)
