Yes. There are gay characters.
An unseen character, Ashley Kerwin's father is gay, and he didn't come out until after he was divorced from her mother. This all happened before the show starts, but they bring it up a lot.
Marco is gay, but he hasn't told everyone yet. Some of the characters are having a hard time adjusting to it, but some are very accepting. Kinda realistic.
Paige's older brother Dylan is openly gay. He is a fairly new character. There is a great deal of foreshadowing that he and Marco will date.
(If you are from Canada, please do not post spoilers about season 3, as it has not yet aired in the USA!)

No no no, I admit that I have tuned in afew times after reading about teh gay content -- I was interested in how canadian TV handles something like that in a "kid's" show, when even MENTIONING it in a show here gives some people fits, and they DID show an episode with Ashley's father coming out to her and her reacting badly. It wasn't an "off screen" thing. I was watchinG Grease when it aired several weeks ago on Noggin, and they showed previews for the new season -- including marco and Dylan holding hands at the movies.. so... LOL
BTW, is it bad that I think in 5 years, Daniel Clark will be a very attractive man??

Sorry, Broadwayguy2. I guess I missed that episode. But Daniel Clark (the guy who plays Sean) is 18, so I think it's alright for you to think he'll be hot at 23.
dramaqueen, yes, I am disturbed by the disney pass-around-kids. Why, oh why do they all have recording contracts and movies now, too? Weren't the multiple t.v. shows/disney channel movies enough?
#29re: Degrassi
Posted: 6/14/04 at 8:25amIt's not so much not enuf people but it is Disney's way of optomizing the contracts.

whew.. 18 is legal thak god. LOL
yes, Disney's pass around the brats is disturbing.
My demonic younger sister was watching a movie on Disney the other night while I was watching her and they had a "411" segment duringa commercial where the visited Christy Carlson-Romano backstage at Beauty and the Beast and took a sneak peek at the new Snow White show at Disneyland.... Christy still grates my nerves even in interviews.

I am almost 21 and i am OBSESSED with Degrassi..I have not missed 1 show since it aired in the US back in october of 2001. If I could marry Jake Epstein I would. Those kids are so talented for their first gigs. They have strong subject matters to deal with and they all do a fantastic job.
I was very small when the original was on but, I always watched it on ABC. I adored Spike and Caitlin...
If they kill Mr Simpson off, I will cry ahh im such a kid and this is my most pathetic, gushing post ever but, I LOVE degrassi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG I love Degrassi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only thing that really pisses me of about The N is that they edited the Daria episodes which makes absolutley no sense since they're willing to examine the same "forbidden topics" on their live action shows.
Wow, my first rant on the off-topic board. That felt good!

Actually, my current tagline is from the first episode of Daria, "Esteemers".
Jane Lane says it to Daria about their self-esteem class.
"You know, the last time I had this dream, I was wearing pink taffeta."
-Jane
:)
I do love me some Daria.

Mr. Simpson is not going to die.
Not in this season, anyway.
If you want to know the character that's not coming back, PM me.

The closest I've ever come to dating a guy, he looked a LOT like Daniel Clark.
Until he shaved his head, of course.
jejeje

I like Emma (Miriam McDonald) but, i do feel her acting is always the same. If they let her character actually have fun for once, she might have more acting options. I saw her in that pathetic lifetime movie about the STD and she played a total slut..she was rather good in the role.
My favorite though is Stacey Farber (Ellie) she is very real.

The acting on that show is very 'hit or miss'.
I think that's the biggest weakness with casting a show completely with young actors who have had little to no previous experience.
Yes, unknowns have their strengths as far as acceptance of a character goes, but they really don't know what they're doing yet.
Jake Epstein (Craig) had the most pre-Degrassi experience, and I feel that he's added a lot to the show (and not just because he's attractive
)
Craig is pretty consistent as the most well-acted character (and although they don't always give him the best lines, they do give him emotionally heavy subject matter because he can obviously handle it).
Spinner is the one who bothers me the most, although he was relatively decent on tonight's episode.
Oh well.
It's a wonderful show, nonetheless.
YAY DEGRASSI!

Posted: 6/18/04 at 10:18pmI saw that TV movie as well, Amneris. Didn't Miriam's character have a threesome at the end with two 30 year olds or something? I don't really remember, but it was weird.
