I finally saw Juno and couldn't get past the horrible soundtrack. Did they hire homeless people to "write" and "Perform" those songs? Did anyone like it- or even understand why they used such unlistenable music?
Well, it has hit number one on Billboard, so yes. It's been selling extraordinarily well for a soundtrack.
I adore the soundtrack. It's great. Fits the movie perfectly.
I have to be in the right mood for it, but yes, it's a very well0crafted soundtrack that fits the movie to a T.
joe you may want to restrict yourself to movies with more old people soundtracks.
Perfect for the film, but I would have no desire to ever hear it outside of that context. A little flummoxed as to why it's so popular.
I loved the soundtrack. The Moldy Peaches rock.
I liked the movie a lot, but I don't think it's as amazing as all that.

Ditto
Loved the movie (especially Ellen Page and Jennifer Garner) and while I think the soundtrack fits the movie very well, I really dislike it. As Rath said, I wouldn't hear it outside of that context.

Do NOT pick on Kimya Dawson/Moldy Peaches. It was very brave of the filmmaker to hire a retarded person for the soundtrack.

I'll third that.

Hey Liverpool I know more about music than you know about being a jerk- and that's saying something. AS the Great One said, don't F with me Fella, this ain't my first time at the rodeo.
And yeah, you know, I kinda think that Juno's weird moody vibe jibes with the Peaches and such, but then why write a script that has her only listening to 70's punk? Why have her talk about music with so much energy & power and fill the soundtrack with the aimless noodling? Didn't it bother you that when she talks about music she's advocating one thing but the score is totally different?
Point excellently made there, Joe.
I think Dawson and the Moldy Peaches are completely something Juno would listen to.
The whole reason the film is filled with that music is because Ellen Page gave Jason Reitman a CD of the Moldy Peaches, because she thought it was something Juno would enjoy.
I think the music and character mesh very well.
I agree Joe. Doe the soundtrack really have a number one single? The people who bought it must be deaf.
"The people who bought it must be deaf."
Or maybe they just enjoy the music and you don't. Different strokes.

"Number one single" is a meaningless phrase nowadays. Sales of actual "singles" are non-existant, radio airplay can be (and is) manipulated, downloads are notorious mis-reported and there are so many charts that there are about three dozen #1's each week. If a marketing department wants to put a "#1 Single!" sticker on a CD they will.
I have no doubt that one of the Juno tracks was #1 on the College radio airplay chart or some such.
I don't think the album has a number one single. Or even a released single for that matter.
It is the album itself that is number one.

Like Rath has ever heard of any of the bands Juno speaks about in the movie. Let alone listened to them.
Yes, Namo, oh you are so right as always. Never heard of any of those songs.

I'm reasonably sure you were listening to Maureen McGovern when "Raw Power" was released.
Some of us have eclectic tastes. Live with it.

Hey Namo would you agree with a friend of mine that "Superstar" is the one song all Sonic Youth fans hate?

I thought it was a perfect part of the film. Very quirky and completely appropriate for Juno and her story.
I also adore the opening credits sequence with the animation. Very cool. It was a wonderful film that kept your attention. I give it two thumbs up!

I liked the movie and I liked the soundtrack, although I do agree that the choices seemed incongruous when you considered what were supposed to be Juno's tastes. I liked the Kimya Dawson stuff; it reminded me a little bit of Liz Phair circa Girlysound.
I didn't think anyone liked that Sonic Youth version of "Superstar." That scene made me a little queasy.
beacon, that was the only part of the movie that bothered me. I thought it was great for a while, but then it just went on and on and on and I wanted the movie to start already!
