Dim Sum...

Hot or not?

re: Dim Sum...

Scalding hot!
But you need to go to chinatown for the best Dim Sum.
Best Soup Dumplings: Mandarin
Second place: Joe's Shanghai
But the lines there are horrific.
I also love a little hole in the wall called The Peking Duck House. It is exceptional.
Also Wo Hop, Hop Kee are great for Dim Sum.
When in Chinatown, go to the Chinatown office (Toro Associates and pick up a magazine on all the best things and places to go when you are there)

ew, I HATE Chicago's chinatown's dim sum. My grandma and uncle live there so we always have dim sum, and wherever we go, the food is horrible. Toronto does has the best chinese food in general.

so yes, if done right dim sum is HOT HOT HOT!

NYC- Has great places for Dim Sum.
My favorite Chinese restaurant is Shun Lee, but they charge way to much for Dim Sum.
The place to be is Chinatown.

Uber-HOT! I wish I could have dim sum everyday. It's a much beloved occasion to have dim sum with my parents.

And fun to alternate between Shanghai dim sum and Catonese. Little dishes of orgasms for the palate.

I think it's hot? Though I'm Chinese, I've only done dim sum once. :/

re: Dim Sum...

My brother's girlfriend is Chinese, and I've discovered that if you go to a restaurant in Chinatown (Chicago), you get better service if there is a Chinese person in your group!

re: Dim Sum...

Only done it once, but it was definitely good.

re: Dim Sum...

Jon, make sure that Chinese person can speak the language because if not, they're not so much with the happiness. :/

re: Dim Sum...

I never had any problem in any China Town/Section/Whatever with service, and I'm as Jewish as one can get.

The person might not speak english, so sometimes I just order, and hope for the best......

re: Dim Sum...

It's a little tougher when you're Chinese and can't speak Chinese though. Most places are fine with that but there are some older folks who aren't as thrilled. re: Dim Sum...

Half my high school experience was "only white girl in a room full of Asians," so that part of the dim sum ordering wasn't too bothersome.

Steamed shrimp balls are as good as life can get.
Oh and shrimp shumai, shrimp and crab dumplings, shrimp toast.
LOVE IT.

re: Dim Sum...

chinkie - do you hate Chicago or dim sum??

I really do like dim sum and love Chicago, just not any Chicago restaurant's dim sum. If you want good dim sum, go to Toronto (Markham).
