I need to travel from NY (actually, northern NJ) to DC in February, and rather than driving, I'm considering train or bus. I've looked into Amtrak, but the cost is so high that it wouldn't save me any money. So, I'm looking into buses, but I've seldom traveled interstate via bus, so I'm seeking advice.
I'd appreciate any input regarding the various discount bus carriers that service this route. Any pitfalls or concerns? Any positive feedback? I'm 6'3", so legroom is always a concern on a bus.
Thanks.

The Chinatown bus line is really cheap and really fast.
Despite it's name they have locations everywhere. I think DC is $40.00 round trip fare.

I've traveled from NYC to DC on both Bolt Bus and Megabus and never had any problems with them. They were both cheap and the service was reliable, although I will say that I'll never complain about how cramped airplane seats are again - the seats on the Bolt Bus were extremely tight. However Megabus's seats had a bit more leg room.
IMO Amtrak's fares have gotten totally ridiculous. The last time I was looking to travel to NYC, a one ware ticket from DC was almost $150.
