The photo's real. The story's not entirely.

"What actually happened, as described in news reports of the surgery, was that:

Still an amazing picture though.

Hmm. I wonder who would fabricate a story like that.

Perhaps the same ones who used selective video of Terry Schiavo "interacting" with people to prove their case? It is an amazing photo. Sad that some would invent a story around it to prove a political point.

Yeah.... it is a very touching photo, but not for the reasons that anti-abortion advocates would have us think. The baby couldn't even move, so it's ridiculous to describe its hand as "emerg[ing] from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr. Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life."

Nonetheless, the medical procedure is inspiring and the picture highlights that--it's just a shame that it's been exploited for political purposes.

I just looked at the dates. I assumed this was some kind of recent thing, but it's been going around for years.
