I agree that if you move locations it should not be to "get away" but to "move toward."
If you have medical insurance check if it covers a psychologist (rather than a psychiatrist) and consider a visit. They help people who are in situational stress like divorce or depression, coping with tough medical conditions, sad because they are recovering from injuries, lonely, confused, etc. They help people get a knowledgable and wider range of viewpoint because they come from a trained, outside perspective. They can help people who are blocked to see through and out of whatever is blocking them which can free up the person's energy again when they're able to stop worrying because they see choices they didn't realize they had before.
A lot of men (tell me if I'm wrong in presuming your gender, I don't assume gender on BWW) have trouble verbally engaging others in conversation to make friends. It's the way their brains work, they are geared to function more physically for survival in combat and such. They are not as verbal and also can be shy, and shy because they know they can't access words as quickly to think of the right thing to say as the other person to whom they are speaking. They often are assisted by their wives in that they will socialize with friends that their wives develop, even relate to and understand other people through their wife's ability to make small talk. The wife creates the social fabric and is the glue.
I notice that when the physical presence of the other person is removed, as when you post online like this, that the shyness is lessened and perhaps it is easier for these men to access words and "speak."
