HOMG! How ironic is this thread I just watched The Sound of Music and was thinking about that last night!
Well Julie was nominated and Sound of Music nearly swept the board in 1965 winning nearly all it was nominated for.
Julie Christie won best actress for Darling, ive never seen the film so IDK how well she portrayed the role. But I definetly think Julie should have won. Well she's still a winner in my heart

Stupid whore? I prefer learning challenged sex worker, thank you very much.
I don't think this question can be answered by anyone who has not seen both performances.

Or by anyone who hasnt seen all 4 of them, it doesnt matter its people opinions
Ideally, yes, but at least having seen Darling.

Well I just said to me, and I think I have seen Darling its sounds soo familiar. eh its just an OPINION, its not life or death
I have seen the other 4
So have I and Christie deserved that Oscar.
But you're a stupid whore! Actually, I would put Christie last on the list. After Julie Andrews, I would have given the Oscar to Elizabeth Hartman for A PATCH OF BLUE.

...or as my delightful students call it, A BATCH OF GLUE.
Yes, I think Andrews would have definitely won, had she not won the year before (for her very first film).
Julie Christie was great in Darling, and I love her AND that film. But the degree of difficulty in pulling off (and carrying) a film like The Sound of Music...
...yes, she should have won. The Academy likes to spread the wealth, more often than not though.
There have only been a handful of back-to-back winners ever:
Luise Rainer, Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Jason Robards and Tom Hanks.
I think that's it.
It doesn't seem to matter that she did not win for this film because this is the performance that we remember. The greater glory is not winning the award, but having such a lasting impression on Hollywood and audiences.

Dear God, no. It was a saccharine performance in a saccharine, massively overrated movie. Christopher Plummer should have won an award just for getting through it without massive insulin injections. He once said (when asked what it was like working on this movie)
"Like being smacked in the face with a valentine every day."

I wouldn't have had a problem if she had won for MUSIC. But she shouldn't have won for POPPINS - that should have gone to Ms. Hepburn for MY FAIR LADY, for which she wasn't even nominated.
So there!
