half this board is full of crazies?
only 12-17 year olds post messages?
posters write reviews based on things they've heard from their ice hut in Alaska (or other place that is no where near NY, Chicago,LA, London, etc.)?
that people don't realize that everyone can have their own opinions? and that just because they differ from yours doesn't mean you should them become nuts?
some people are just mean? insecure? obsessed with performers like they are a diety ot something?
OR THE MOST ANNOYING IN MY MIND-
that because these folks are 16 they don't realize that theatre has been around forever and only post stuff about shows from the last 6 years when folks ask a question about a song or something?
Just curious. Newer here and have been highly amused by these folks.

"that because these folks are 16 they don't realize that theatre has been around forever and only post stuff about shows from the last 6 years when folks ask a question about a song or something"
Generalize much?
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

No, actually I don't feel like that. Ever.
Maybe because I *am* 16 and am sick of people like you who write me off as having nothing valuable to say just because of my age.
Seeing as how you've been here less than two weeks? Maybe you could keep your opinions to yourself.

Ok, like 10 year olds know EXACTLY what they are talking about when it comes to Broadway.
When I started here, my likes were Wicked and Rent. Eventually, this board widened my views, and I now like all sorts of shows from all sorts of times. Give them a while, the "young-ins" (which I count myself as, as an 18 y/o young-in) will recognize the past more.
Oh, and well said NTG

I am 17 and I can hold my own while talking about all forms of theatre.
To be fair-Those who are young have probably not seen older shows and have only seen newer ones.

Ah yes, the wonderful world of internet message boards where anyone can look up something on Google then present the information here as though they are an expert, anyone can review a show without ever having seen it and one can receive therapy and advice on very difficult life issues from a 13 year old.
I learned a while ago to look at half of it as sociological phenomenon to be studied and the other half as entertainment.

Really? What happens to the posters when they turn 18? Is this like Logan's Run?

Posted: 12/23/04 at 4:32pmhmm. A little generalization there. no? i am in the 10-17 yr range and was a HUGE fan of the classic musicals, after reading and posting i'm not a huge fan of both. these boards have broadened my horizons. Thank you BWW.tee-hee

Posted: 12/23/04 at 4:32pmWe can only hope. But seriously, when I was a precocious teen I tried to keep up with the adults, to be as sophisticated as I imagined myself to be. I had no desire to drag adult discussions down to junior high levels. And I sure learned a lot from the adults who included me in their theatrical discussions and endeavors as a result. Not once did I try to engage them with "Ohmyghad, I totally have a paper to write on Atilla the Hun."

Posted: 12/23/04 at 4:35pmWell I dunno, I'm 14 and I know more about Broadway history than these 3 Broadway performers who are around the age of 40 that I know...and many of these 12-17 year olds are actually very well opinionated in my opinion...

Not to mention that some of the biggest babies and ignorami here claim to be adults in real life.
Go ahead and rant against ignorance. Please stop tying it to age.

Hey, I am 18---but I know a heck of a lot about theatre. And so do many others my age and younger. If you don't like the board, then maybe you should stop coming. We are an excellent group of people and friends.
I sorta like the crazies; they keep it real.

You know what? I'm 18. I have no problem with it, because all my life, people have shot down my opinions because of my age. After a while, you learn to take it. Not a day goes by that I don't visit this board and think about how brilliant some of these kids are, and how refreshing it is to find such brilliance in such young minds, after being surrounded by stupidity for four years in high school. I've made friends on this board who are more than a few years older than me - not just online friendships, either. After years of comments like what you posted, I can hardly believe that they dare value my opinions, because of those comments. Open your eyes - half of the people on here who are "annoying" and ignorant aren't kids.
Don't generalize. Blind generalization is just as wasteful as blatant stupidity.

I'm 20, and I know that there is a theatrical world outside of what's playing now. Always have, always will.
"posters write reviews based on things they've heard from their ice hut in Alaska (or other place that is no where near NY, Chicago,LA, London, etc.)?"
Well, not all of us are lucky enough to live in NYC, thank you. And what is wrong with that? I have opinions on shows that I've only listened to because I simply cannot afford to fly out to New York whenever I want and get tickets to shows.
And if you want proof that not all the teens and 20-somethings here are theater-illeratite, there are literally tons of posters here who fall in that age range who are smarter and more articulate than some adults I know (and a lot of them have posted in this thread).
Good day to you.

Posted: 12/23/04 at 10:22pmI agree with you that some people don't realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I also agree that there are some people here who just focus on one or two shows that have opened the in the past year or so. But to generalize and say that anyone who is under 18 here is incapable of knowing about shows before 2000, is ignorant. I am 16 and I know a vast amount on many various shows from different time periods. I don't make every post about Wicked or Hairspray(both shows I loved). Don't make generalizations that aren't true.

Posted: 12/23/04 at 10:44pmI was offended by your post, Switz. I am quite young, and my interests are broader than Wicked or something of the sort. I'm so tired of people coming here and claiming that all the young people have no knowledge of Broadway. We're a major part of this board, and our contributions to it aren't always about what type of make-up Idina uses. In fact, many of the younger people I have chatted with here seem more polite and intelligent then a few of the adults.

You know all the talk of how Broadway is dying? And how our generation is it's only hope?
Well, it's people like you, Switz, who are keeping us from learning.

Undiscovered...nicely said!
Teenyboppers incessantly saying OhMyGoDIdInArOcKsMyWoRlD ShEsHoUlDpLaYgYpSyGrIzAbElLaChRiStInEzAzaAnDuLlAaTtHeSaMeTiMe does get annoying, but anyone with an intelligent, thought out opinion is AOK by me reguardless of age. People are welcome to their opinions..if you don't like them..don't read em, or read them and choose to ignore them.

Posted: 12/24/04 at 11:48amI'm going to be 15 in a couple months and I love it here!! I've learned so much about the theatre! The only thing that makes me mad/frustrated/uncomfortable is the people who say I don't know anything about Broadway, and that I should be able to talk about the blocking from shows from 1965! (ok that's an exaggeration but..) How can I, as a young person ever learn more about the theatre if I'm automatically written off as being narrowminded and only liking modern shows. I like modern shows because I've seen them! I've had the whole expirience! But I also like more classic shows. I may not know a lot about them but that doesn't mean I'm stupid or immature. Before I learned about how it works her I (stupidly) defended that crazy Wicked girl. My first post was totally shot down, and I almost left then. But I stayed and now I'm glad because everyday I learn something new. But I also watch people get into cyber catfights about shows. Everyone has their own opinion. Can't we all just get along??

All these people have rather good points! I am only 16 so I guess Switz you are making a reference to me. I started doing theater a few years ago, but before performing it, I always had a passion for it. When you have a passion for something you look into it and discover all you are able to. So yes..I do know a lot of older shows along w/ the newer ones! ANd i dont get why it is 12-17....why not 13-18 why not 20-30? Why do you have to try to judge us by age?
Merry Christmas!
