Dog drags baby out of crib

Well we will never know the dog's intent but if it wanted to kill or hurt the baby, I don't think the child would be in the hospital right now but a good portion of it in the dog's stool.

I read this article and can't remember ever being more grateful that I'll never have to deal with an infant in my life.

And I wanted to cry because they said the dog might be destroyed, because I have a weakness for dogs who have a touch of the crazy.

Dogs bury bones so they will get all dirty and wormy and gross and taste even BETTER three days later. But the Native American Indian dog forgot that part.

The dog, Dakota is said to be "a mixed breed with wolves in its ancestry..."

And why do they have this dog in the same house as a newborn?

Wolves don't usually attack humans. Children are probably safer in a house with a dog with wolf ancestors than a purebred toy poodle or a chihuahua.

With the baby being so young, maybe the owners didn't properly prepare the dog for the baby joining the family. The dog could have viewed this new animal in their house as an invader.


Native American Indian is both politically incorrect and redundant.

And it's exactly that kind of myth that gets repeated until a baby gets dragged out of a crib. One of the foremost wolf experts in the country told me he's heard that from people who don't know any better too many times. (It's right up there with such old favorites as "I drive better when I'm drunk, I'm way more careful!" and "The check's in the mail.") The way the guy explained it to me there is always a battle in the brain between the domesticated animal and the wild one. And the wild one ALWAYS comes out.

So. No. A wolf/dog hybrid should in no way be presumed safer for chidren or any humans than a toy poodle. I mean, I think it's cute we're willing to make excuses and all ("Why, the wolf and the baby just hadn't been properly introduced, is all!" which is right up there with "Cujo doesn't even KNOW he's a pitbull!"), but it's not grounded in reality.

Growing up we always had a dog, and they were always docile and gentle and you had to worry very little about their behavior. My first and thus far only dog all on my own as an adult is the craziest little f@cker I've ever known. I wouldn't change anything for the world, but he never lets me forget that he is first and foremost, a domesticated animal (and I feel like either of those words could be emphasized and still make the same point).

Not as frequently as I've heard of people with wild animals who are surprised when they act like wild animals and hurt, maim, or kill somebody!
