Nice compilation.

As of 4 PM Thursday, the American Red Cross said they had received $5 million through this campaign.
From American citizens during the worst economic crisis since the depression, each donating only $10.
"CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports that the American public has responded to the Haiti crisis so far by donating more than $8 million to the American Red Cross for Haiti relief — $10 dollars at a time — by texting HAITI to 90999."
More people -- including those who would normally not donate anything at all -- tend to donate in smaller amounts when the economy is bad.
"Little monsters, Gaga wants your help to contribute toward disaster relief in Haiti! January 24th is GAGA FOR HELPING HAITI day! Proceeds from ALL merchandise purchased on LadyGaga.com on this date will go directly to Haitian earthquake relief. For monsters attending the Monster Ball in NYC that evening, proceeds from all ticket sales & merch sold will also be donated to the cause. Spread the word and come back to LadyGaga.com on the 24th to do your part to help!"

I was slacking yesterday afternoon and saw Gaga on Oprah. She is such a smart cookie. And to have so many charity mechanisms in place to run with her first major tour is impressive as hell.
The Hopital Albert Schweitzer is one of the few hospitals in Haiti still standing. It was apparently built in 1956 to US building codes. It is doing its best to provide care to all that it can right now.
Functioing Hospital in Need of Help.
If you have a paypal account, you should have received a message from Paypal asking to donate. I think it's great that such large company used its resources for such a great cause.

I just sent her a PM asking her to remove her link from this thread.
I've reported her to the mods, but she still does it in every post.
I have signatures blocked, yet IT keeps showing up.
I also sent her a PM asking her to stop and this was her response:

Psst! Tell her to post more frequently. (Reverse psychology!)
We have a lot to learn from the Israelis! I'm glad at least ONE country is able to provide efficient and more sophisticated medical care. Not to take away from our efforts there but I'm beyond disgusted that the Americans haven't been able to do the same. Not meaning to get all political... it's just that the news has been VERY frustrating to watch! OK, rant over.
Why can't we get our act together, America???
Why are supplies not getting through but reporters are?
Why did a Royal Caribbean cruise ship dock there, drop off 40 pallets of relief supplies, then allow passengers to spend the day frolicking on a private beach?
Because this is the world we live in.
^According to NPR, "The CEO of Royal Caribbean International says the company's cruise ships are still arriving in Haiti. Adam Goldstein tells Steve Inskeep that Haiti's government has asked his company to continue docking its luxury liners at Labadee in northern Haiti, which wasn't closed by the earthquake. Goldstein says Royal Caribbean's ships have begun to offload supplies of drinking water, food and dry goods for earthquake victims."
At Haiti's request
I know--I mentioned that they're delivering supplies, but I still can't imagine getting out at Labadee for a shore excursion of sun and fun guarded by armed security forces, with such devastation just a few miles away.
And I'm not saying that staying on the ship that day and going to the spa is any better...
I agree completely; it would feel awfully strange.
Though I imagine any tourist dollars spent onshore are more vital than ever.
I've worked on RCI ships and have docked in Labadee before. Let me tell you, it has ALWAYS felt awkward to be vacationing there knowing the poverty of that country and that people were starving a short distance from you even before the quake hit. But Reginald is right, the tourist dollars are vital.
According to their website, RCI will provide at least $1 million in humanitarian relief, partner with charitable organizations to deliver goods and supplies, 100% of the company's net revenue from the destination will be contributed to the relief effort, and guests will also have the ability to make donations to the Food for the Poor’s Haiti Relief Fund through their onboard accounts fleetwide.
Anyway, MIRACULOUS new rescue this morning! God bless that woman for hanging in there.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if Royal Caribbean partnered with Habitats for Humanity and, when things have stabilized, brought a shipload of volunteers there to rebuild the infrastructure?
I know people who like to go on "green vacations" and "eco-tours"--I can see a lot of people volunteering to go to Haiti and help rebuild.
I think that's a great idea and I would probably sign up to do it.
I love the idea too. Help me flesh the idea out and if I have a professional way to pitch the idea to the CEO I will definitely consider sending him an email!
