I never knew she recorded this song!

Has there ever been a singer with more sunshine in her voice?

yes BFB, she recorded it for her Lp (remember those?), "Hooray for Hollywood, Volume 1".
I always wondered how fantastic the South Pacific film would have been starring Doris Day. I love Mitzi, but the role just seemed so perfect for Doris.

i heart doris day.
no doubt she would have been amazing as 'ensign nellie forbush'.
I know it's as far away from Christmas as can be right now, but her version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" ranks right up there with Garland's for me -- just because of that sunshine that pair so wonderfully with the depressing original lyrics.
I loved Mitzi too - but you're right. The role would have been perfect for Doris.
Her voice is so incredible. I actually got shivers and a bit teary eyed listening to that!
Like Calvin pointed out with HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, OVER THE RAINBOW is a rather sad song. I love that Day isn't a damaged soul singing. Her tenderness and sincerity give it hopefulness.
I just love her.

How pure was that ? Every note a GEM, she is by far one of the finest singers
ever, and she did not change one note of that song.
What a national treasure she is!
