I thought it looked great, but I couldn't get into the story. I should probably try again; maybe I was tired.

It has to do with a secret society that killed his wife and him and he is now getting revenge

Stay off the sauce Reg. No more clubbing for you.

You weren't tired. It's an Ayn Randian story of a creative individualist being stifled by takers who are stopping his innovations.

the sets were magnificent - the opera house, the mansion, etc.

Rhys Meyers' non British accent stood out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of the actors!
I know, he's supposedly from the states. But that's too much of a departure for me. It's a long way from Transylvania to Seacaucus. LOL.

I watched it this morning. Overall, I thought it was good. I've never really been a purist, so I'm fine with it being Dracula in name only. I thought the acting was good. JRM didn't surprise me, but I've always liked him.

I thought the production values really stood out. Great locations and costumes.

I am having trouble getting past the accent. It's terrible.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I thought it was just OK. A little plodding, too talky. But the Sets, Costumes were all fantastic.
But where the hell did he get that accent? It's bad and takes away my concentration.
I will give this another try, but I don't know...not impressed.
The trailer really grabbed me.

Roxy, I saw in another thread that you say you've just finished reading the original Bram Stoker novel. What did you think of it?

It's one of my favorite books, one I've reread on a number of occasions. And you're right: It's unlike almost every film adaptation, even (especially?) "Bram Stoker's Dracula."

I got it free on my Kindle

It sometimes is slow going and it is almost as if Dracula was a minor character as he is nowhere to be found in most of the book. Interesting that Renfield in this Dracula is not the flyeater that he was in the Lugosi version. The accent does not bother me as Rhys played Henry th VIII as slimmed down and nothing like he was portrayed in film and paintings.

I downloaded the 1 st episode free on my Kindle so I can go back and watch it anytime.

I also have Frankenstein & all of Poe also downloaded free . I know Frankenstein the movie is nothing like the novel. The Bride aspect is in the book and he winds up on the frozen tundra and not by the burning mill.

It should not be read until you at least hit your teens as young people would lose interest in it I think. I also do not understand referring to Dracula's mind as like a child, Here is someone who has lived thru the centuries being portrayed as having a child like mind. In fairness, it is never mentioned in the novel how old he is.

Jonathan Harker is changed in both Dracula & Horror Of Dracula. Van Helsing in totally different than in the movie. A few characters in the novel are nowhere to be seen in the movie.
