On one of the HBOs right now.
I saw the original with Patti and loved it.
I still enjoy the movie.
Great cinematography.

Hey handsome.

Let's not forget Mr. Banderas.

The first time I saw this movie was a month ago after having seen the show staged twice and after having listened to the original cast recording.

Honestly, the movie made me throw up in my mouth a little. Didn't care for it at all.

LOVE the show, though. re: EVITA the film

Sh%$, I hate that phrase!

Really enjoyed it, especially the cinematography and art direction.

I thought the movie was ok, but I also thought it was Madonna's best film performance. Oh-besides being herself in Truth or Dare!

The problem I had with the film was that I was alays more interested in what Banderas or Pryce were doing on screen than in what Madonna was doing. I think she was so over-exposed in the press at the time that I was just tired of seeing her face - and she wasn't really showing me anything new in her performance. She was exactly what I expected her to be.

I'm the odd one out: I really enjoyed the film (and not just because of Madonna, although she was very moving in Eva's death scenes), but I was underwhelmed by the stage production.

I felt that the stage show was condescending, smug and trivialized Argentine history. No wonder so many Argentinians were so offended when it first opened. I felt the movie better examined why the masses loved Eva Peron so much, and explored warmer aspects of her character rather than just present a cold, manipulative bitch.

The film has been my only exposure to the work as a whole. And I enjoyed it. Having said that, though, someone please revive it in NY.
