I was on the 6th floor and it felt like I was getting seasick!

They just backed it down to 5.4. Chino Hills, the epicenter, is about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It was a classic thrust fault quake. It is considered a "moderate" quake.

I'm in the San Fernando Valley, so about 45 miles west of the epicenter. It shook real hard for a few seconds, then rolled a bit then started rolling really strongly for another 15-20 seconds. All in all it lasted at least 30-40 seconds here, a lot longer than the 1994 Northridge quake.

No serious damage, but several things leaped off the bookshelf, which was a truly bizarre thing to witness. No cell phone service still, but at least the landlines are working.

I still can't believe we didn't lose power.

We're only about 15 miles from the epicenter, and there's no indication of damage or anything like it out here.

I was home at the time in Hollywood, and it definitely shook. I stood up from my desk and stood in the guest room doorway. My cats headed under the bed.

I've lived out here 21 years, and as "disturbing" as this was, it's nothing compared to Northridge. That quake was (literally) 10 times as bad.

By comparison, I was concerned for a few minutes (especially for some new Roseville pottery my partner recently bought that wasn't "puttied down" yet), but ultimately in perspective it wasn't that bad.

I spent the afternoon putting putty on the new knickknacks.

Oh, and I'm really happy you and everyone else out there are okay. That's even more important than what you buy to keep your pottery in place. earthquake

Oh my god, Roscoe. I wondered what twisted commentary this thread might have yielded, and it did not disappoint, thanks to you. LOL!!

The quake didn't seem to hurt anyone, thank goodness.

I was on a conference call with our clients out there when it happened, and then when an aftershock came in later. Those people were surprisingly calm and collected during the whole thing and never even got off the call.

BroadwayBoobs: I'll give all of you who weren't there a hint of who took the pictures ...it rhymes with shameless

It's just a 'day in the life' out here.

And it really wasn't all that . . . anything, really.

I was there for an earthquake once. It was thrilling.

The epicenter was in uninhabited desert, so no one was hurt. I was like, "Wow. This is REAL, not a movie!" (which is the only way I have ever "experienced" earthquakes before.)

CBC was completely nonchalant about it since he used to live in California and had been through many of them.

Calvin is there on business and is ok (I've heard from him twice).

I wanna go through an earthquake once. It seems fun/scary/cool. But I'm weird like that.
