I just finished watching this movie. I rented it for free from the library! It's from 1983 and it stars Michael Caine and Julie Walters- both nominated for Oscars for their roles in this movie. To all you younguns'- if you have never seen it- please do! It is such a charming film! Michael and Julie are superb- really superb! I am in such a good mood after watching this! Just had to post!

I've always thought this was one of the better stage-to-screen adaptations - buoyed strongly by the two performances. That was my first exposure to Julie Waters, and I've been in love ever since.
She's just outstanding in the movie, although I'm not positive I'd call it charming.
Yup! Mrs. Weasley looks amazing in this movie! And Michael Caine is the pageant trainer from Miss Congeniality- lol!
Didn't Rhea Perlman attempt a sitcom knockoff of EDUCATING RITA?
Another terrific Willy Russell stage-to-screen adaptation is SHIRLEY VALENTINE.
It's also available streaming on Netflix if you have it.
Saw this on dvd a couple of years ago (I loved it so much I started a thread about it too!) and it remains a favorite.
Julie Walters was wonderful!
