THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA Musical (Chicago Pre-Broadway) - News & Discussion Thread

Aug 5, 2022 — 2:27:05 PM

YvanEhtNioj said: "It looks hella cheesy.also something that has been (kinda) bothering me. Please don’t drag me for saying this, but a black woman being treated and spoken to by a white boss the way Maranda Speaks to Andy would not at all fly in 2022. I know it doesn’t/shouldn’t matter but just a thought I’ve had since the casting was announced.Edit before someone comes for my neck: I get that it’s just a show and doesn’t have to be realistic. Just a thought. Still excited to see it"The fact...

Julie Benko as Fanny - Funny Girl

She also was Mimi Hine’s standby for a large part of her run.https://streamable.com/1066r7" Thank you, BrodyFosse123. Gerard is TERRIFIC. She actually feels she could be Kay Medford's daughter.

Did Bea Arthur have plastic surgery?

Sep 20, 2021 — 11:49:39 PM

She may have had surgery...I dunno. But I always attributed the change in look to a change in her eye make up.Her "Maude" eye makeup made her eyes look small and beady. Her after "Maude" make up was applied in such a way the "opened" up her eyes..That's my take.

DEAR EVAN HANSEN film sets September 2021 release

May 18, 2021 — 8:26:44 PM

OUCH!Platt on stage was one of the most effective performances I've ever seen. But the artifice that works on stage doesn't often translate to film. He looks like he is "acting", self-consciously overwrought. Ouch.Add to that the GLARING age issue, and this looks just plain painful.

Zadan/Meron: Next NBC Live Musical & Upcoming musical w/ Shuberts

Feb 12, 2021 — 5:02:49 PM

Sure... I need to preface this with a disclaimer saying this is just my gut feeling about what could happened in the creative process. And while I’ve chatted with the creative team... including a VERY funny encounter with Michael Korie in the men’s restroom on the night of the first preview in Chicago...I have absolutely no idea if what I’m about to write is true.I saw The Powder And The Glory when it was first broadcast on PBS. In interviews the lead producer has said he also so saw the docum...

Loving this podcast. Absolutely loving it. Reminds me of the Broadway Backstory podcasts from 2016 to 2018.

Zadan/Meron: Next NBC Live Musical & Upcoming musical w/ Shuberts

Feb 12, 2021 — 12:37:53 AM

SUGAR has a very funny Peter Stone book. Styne's score is jazzy delicious. Merrill's lyrics are DREADFUL... downright cringe worthy.Matthew Lopez as a book writer had me scratching my head from the moment it was announcement. As a POC who passes the "back of the bus" test, very happy to see Amber Ruffin as book writer... I just fear that the decision to include her has more to do with the current political zeitgeist than any authentic artistic impulse from originally announced creative team. ...

Jefferson Mays in A Christmas Carol

Dec 27, 2020 — 9:05:29 PM

What a difference a year makes.Last year, I bought a $20 rush ticket to see the show. Sat front row center. And the house was - at best -50% capacity. It was very well done and Mays' skill is unquestionable. But at the end of the day it's still A Christmas Carol. And no amount of skill or talent can elicit anything new or exciting from that beat dead story.

Tours with better casts than OBCs

Jan 4, 2020 — 7:11:46 PM

I agree that Martin Short made a superior Leo Bloom than Broderick. Last year I saw the tour of Waitress in Costa Mesa. Superb cast as good if not better than original Broadway leads. The Full Monty tour really impressed me as being as good as the originals.

West Side Story Revival will cut I Feel Pretty and Somewhere Ballet

Nov 9, 2019 — 11:20:11 PM

I'm not precious about West Side Story at all. I find the MUSIC MAN, with it's brilliant and original opening number, and lead characters that are more than "boy" and "girl" a much more interesting piece. Add to that the story is completely original. A singular achievement. But now..,for me this revival is suddenly interesting. I can live without I FEEL PRETTY and the SOMEWHERE Ballet anyway. The film AMERICA is dramatically superior. Van Hove may at last make a post-original production that ...

Tammy Grimes in 42nd Street

behindthescenes2 said: "That west end production was about as bland and miscast as you can possibly aspire to. Boring and the singing was bland and boring. The best that can be said about the production was that the tap routines wereneatlyand cleanly executed."PREACH!!!I got see Dolores Gray, again, another example of legitimate "star quality". So much what made Broadway exciting has been processed out of most shows.

Opinions about JUDY

Oct 6, 2019 — 3:34:08 PM

Zellweiger gives s largely one-note performance, not much deepth or weight. What you see in the first 10 minutes is exactly the same thing you see for the next 90 minutes...,and not being a force of nature herself, her singing is at moments embarrassing especially when everyone around her is describing it as this rare god-given gift to the world.A slog of a film to endure.

Little Shop of Horrors- Pasadena

Oct 3, 2019 — 9:50:06 AM

Being provocative or 'woke' for headlines-sake is not usually considered a positive, especially when reviews of this show have been a hot mess since they opened. It's not about tradition or that we're all obsessed with Ellen Greene:It's about respecting the written material and casting actors who are capable of the role. This isn't the case here.Adventurous is one thing.Completely missing the point of what Ashman and Menken wrote is quite another.Bottom line, this show will close unceremonious...

No need to be disrespectful andtell me I am confused.I loved it."You’re not confused. Both nights I saw it the audience went wild. And the Pasadena crowd isn’t known for jubilant reactions. The closed minded and traditional-minded will not the see the successes in this production. They will simply moan and groan all night about how “this isn’t right”, “that’s not the way ...

Little Shop of Horrors- Pasadena

Saw it again last night... This definitely falls in the category of “ Better to see and not be impressed, than miss and never know what the fuss was about “

Little Shop of Horrors- Pasadena

Okay... I saw it.Firstly, this is a very ambitious production where the director rightly or wrongly subverts almost every expectation when it come this show. This director has now freed Little Shop from the museum piece it has become. And for that reason alone this production deserves attention.By museum piece I mean....I saw the original L.A. production with Faith Prince, and every subsequent production has been some slight variation on the original or derivative of the film. All basically t...
