I was just introduced to this school. Does anyone know much about it? Apparently it is a young program, but I have only heard good things about it. Thanks for your help!

It's a fabulous school! Highly selective, though - I think the Performing Arts Department only took 8 Freshmen last year. One of them was one of my students - he's studying dance. I went down in October to see their production of Jekyll & Hyde and was blown away. I took a tour of the department and was so impressed by the one-on-one mentoring that goes on there. The students are very talented and the faculty is totally devoted to their success. This summer most of the students (including my former stuident) have been placed in summer stock companies. I highly recommend the school - go take a look, I bet you'll love it!

I have many friends who got into the school, but were rejected for the MT program. It is HIGHLY selective, but very new, and has alot of money....it is a great program. I'm looking there too (HS class of 06' i presume, brdwaybaby?)

This is what I know:

I saw auditions at the NCTC event last year. Many colleges from North Carolina. Everyone from ELON sang great. However, their acting was not so good.

Those from UNCG did fine for both.

Greensboro College had better actors, only a few could sing.

Those from UNC-CH could sing well, but acting was mixed.

Guilford College was mixed on both.

High Point was mixed on both.

Mars Hill had people who were great at both, and ok at both.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Also need to add that the college you choose is not the main factor. It's you, what YOU do with the program, and how they help you. YOU is 66.6% of it. THEM is 33.3%. .1% are all the other little factors combined.

Wny do people keep referring to it as new and young. The school's been around since 1889! I remember when they were The Fighting Christians!

I don't think they mean the school itself, but the musical theatre program.

Oh okay, sorry. I saw Quilters there, 8 or 9 years ago. Another good theater school is DeSalles University in Centre Valley, Pennsylvania
