Any-one go there? or know anything about it.
Currently it is my top choice. I am going to be a senior next year, and I really want to get in but I just want to know more about it.... help?
I know some people that go there. It is an INCREDIBLE theatre school and consider yourself very lucky if you get in, definitely take advantage of it.
Its also in a great area of Boston =)
Their acting program is great, but their musical theatre program is not. Rumor has it, that their getting rid of the musical theatre program.
Boston is amazing.
Emerson is fantastic for acting, but very conservatory-style and kind of lacking in the liberal arts. If that's what you want, go for it. If you want to study things other than theatre, I'd at least LOOK elsewhere.
I know that the essay question for the application was like, if you could stand in the middle of the boston common and speak out about a worldly issue, what would it be and what would you say...or something like that hahah
woo! I'll be starting there in the fall! (For grad school, but still!)
Dramatothemax- where did you hear that?
thetheatrekook- what are you studying?
This is also my top choice for next year, but I want to major in Stage Managing, Directing, and Business Management
That they are getting rid of their musical theatre program.
I've heard it from some friends who know people in the program. As of now it's just rumor, but who knows, I think it'd be for the better. haha
I know someone who teaches theatre ed. there and I've heard that as well...
I thought it had a really good Musical Theatre program.
what colleges would you recommend for musical theatre?
I'll just say that I saw Bat Boy there, and it was all juniors and seniors...I felt like I was watching a bad musical put on by the 6th grade class.

A Grey Spring- All three? At the same time?
Emerson's acting and technical programs are fantastic- I have many talented friends that have come out of both. Speakeasy Stage also provides amazing opportunities, as it is closely related to Emerson and can provide great ushering, technical, and dramatic opportunities.
You'll be able to network VERY well from this school, in addition to its other perks.
PLEASE keep us updated!!!
Best of luck! =)
P.S. thetheatrekook, I know a great guy going for Theatre Education. He's going to be a junior next year =)
springstagemanager- What have you heard about their Musical Theatre program?

Their tech program is great!
I know someone who went there that majored in lighting design... They're absolutely incredible at what they do and loved Emerson--- They graduated this year. If you PM me, I can give you a link to her website so you can see some of her Lighting Design stuff and I believe her Senior Project. =)
She's actually considering going back for Post-Grad school. She comes from California, originally, and found herself very happy here, as most do =)
As for the Musical Theatre program, I have a friend who is a junior and a friend who is a sophomore in the Musical Theatre program and they are doing very well and very much enjoy it. Both of them have great opportunities- One may be cast in Spring Awakening, and the other has been cast in small movie roles already.
There are a lot more opportunities for extra and other work here in Boston than in New York, from what I hear.
