I am a college student majoring in MT and trying to slowly break into professional theater. I have an audition coming up next week that is for an Equity theater. The call is for both Equity and Non-Equity actors, but I am a bit leary of what to expect. Does anyone have any good pointers for Equity auditions? I'm wondering if i should get there super early, or even treat it any different than a normal audition. Also, the audition notice didn't list how long the song should be... what is the normal protocal for this? a minute?
thanks for your comments!

A minute? Noooo wayy to long. Cut your sheet music at 8 bars, 16 bars, and then 32 bars. 32 is the longest you'll have to sing. Is this an Open call? Or and Equity call that says they'll see non Eq? If i t's an open call get there really early. Same goes if it's for an Eq call, but be aware that if it is an eq. call you'll have to wait there all day since Equity actors get seen first. Also be aware that if it is a union call you may not be seen at all.

Is this audition in New York or in another state?

The audition is in San Diego and is an open call for Equity and Non-Equity.

Since it's an open call, you'll get about 16 bars to sing, depending on how many people show up. Get their really early because open calls tend to generate more people than equity calls.

Also, depending on the show and how many people show up, be prepared for them to "type out" -- meaning only see people who fit whatever type they're looking for. This is more likely to happen if there's more people and it's a more popular show.

And yes, get there very VERY early. And on the same note, bring something to do while you're waiting. You'll probably be there for a long time. I would highly recommend an iPod or other music playing device to drown out everyone around you.

Are you going to the audition for Most Wanted the Musical?
Have a short song prepared with cuts already decided on and rehearsed so if they say they are having a certain amount of bars you will be prepared. Treat it as a normal audition and go in there and have fun and be yourself.
