Hi there,
I'm not sure most of you are familiar with the Eurovision Song Contest, but it's the most watched music event in the world. It has launched the career of many great artists such as Abba, Celine Dion, Ofra Haza, Olivia Newton John, Julio Iglesias, Cliff Richards, France Gall and many more!
It's an amazing experience!
Me and a friend of mine have been working on a Eurovision concept monthly party in NY (starting Dec 10) and we've been trying to think of creative way to promote it. We think it has great potential and people would love it here.
We would love to hear any ideas on a low/no budget
If you're not familiar with Eurovision please check out our promo video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB9AztSm2Yc&feature=youtu.be

Thank you,
Gilad.

Everyone here lives for the song contest and especially Melodifestivalen, which is our preliminary. Everyone you know is watching it. lol It's a great deal of fun, especially when your country does well. Yay Loreen! I picked her as my favorite from her first performance. We stumbled upon a live concert this summer in Göteborg and the woman sounds perfect live every single time.
It has just never really caught much interest in the US, it seems. Good luck with your venture, though.

I've never understood why the contest never caught on here in the US, especially after the American Idol phenomenon. The closest we came is the World Idol contest where Kelly Clarkson came in second. I dont even think that got the ratings of a regular season of AI.
Low/no budget? I'd say using the internet like you are. Definitely look around any AI websites and get the word out that way. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! AI websites is a good idea.
I was there in Baku, when Loreen won! I knew she was going to win the second I saw her in Melodifestivalen. It's great she's picking momentum here in clubs.
This music/contest has great potential, and we are so passionate about this. We even have some Eurovision artists supporting us!
If any of you know anybody in NY that might be interested or open minded about new concepts, please spread the word :)

I'm a big fan too, though it's not the same if I can't watch live. I fell in love with it when I lived in Europe, and it was huge where I was too. Only once since I began watching has my favorite song actually won - this year! I love Euphoria.
I reject comparisons to American Idol - that's just some trashy reality TV show. Eurovision is special - an event, an experience, a religion.
Good luck with your party.

Ah I love Eurovsion. Actually I think I even prefer the Melodifestivalen more--the Swedes take their cheesy pop very seriously, as they should (though I've been miffed that Alcazar have recently failed to score there.)
One reason it's never caught on in the US (or even Canada which is much more Euro friendly) is I suspect because, unless BBCUSA or whatever has picked it up, it's never been shown there, or here. Now with the internet, that's all a moot point, but... (And if the Americans can't enter--and let's face it the style of music for a long time was way too cheesy for mainstream USA anyway though it's starting to fit the style more now--the thought was prob why would they care--although it's a BIG deal in Australia, and they can't enter, but that's Australia...)
Anyway, best of luck with your night!

Thanks, I'm originally from Israel, and as much as they dont like to admit it popular there, it is :)
I still can't understand why a big network in the US haven't purchased the rights to air it. it's cheaper then producing a show, and it's much more glamorous then any reality show this country has produced...

Glad it went well!
So far for me, it's Anggun and her gay soldiers for the win! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThWN_4P7ODk

I like this song. Our DJ edited the video with the live performance and played it. Fun song! My favorite for the year was Loreen, but I find myself listening to this one recently. so theatrical. reminds me a bit of Donna Murphy. What do you think?
