Will it ever be legal?
Thoughts on the subject globally are evolving, it’s being eased in gently by laws in some countries.
I for one would certainly like the chance to avail of it if ever the desperate need arises.
Would you help a friend or family member end their suffering?

"Would you help a friend or family member end their suffering?"
As much as I might want to end their suffering, I don't think I have it in me to assist anybody with dying.
Why do we give animals this right, but not humans?
I love my cat, but I would hate to see her suffer at the end. The same is true of those humans I love, but you’re right, it would be very tough.
One of my best friends is 23 now. She's been depressed since age 16 or so, and has repeatedly said that if euthanasia were legal in America, she would apply right away on the grounds of mental health. What complicates things is that my friend is non-medicated. "I don't want to hide the symptoms or learn to live with it; I don't even want to get better necessarily," she says, "I just want to be GONE."
I know when applying for disability, a refusal to medicate or seek treatment that is affordable or available is often grounds for being denied benefits; would something similar be in place for euthanasia?
I feel for her, and for you. That’s tough.
Clinical Depression is a serious condition, but in my mind euthanasia is for terminal cases only. If there is any hope at all, then that’s what we should cling to.
Your friend is not in her right mind, and as such unfit to decide. Medication is her best way forward. If only there was some way to make her see that. It’s a Catch 22.
