What I posted was not rhetoric, there is not one thing that I wrote in my post that is not true.

His actions speak for themselves. 

There is just no way of disputing that. And to call it anything else than what it truly is says a lot to me about the people disputing it and in turn defending him.

His supporters are with him all because everything he has done up until now does not affect them.

I can only speak for myself. I'm just not sitting behind my MacBook typing out "rhetoric" (their words - not mine). I participated in the Women's March. I was at JFK Sunday protesting the Muslim Ban - - - and I plan to attend the upcoming rally being held for LGBQT rights on Saturday at 2 pm. 

As far as "extracting ourselves" from this nightmare - - - there is NO SUCH THING unless you plan to move out of the country. turn a blind eye to what is happening or just live in a bubble. This is real and it's happening in OUR country and we're right dead center in the middle of it.

The power we have is to have our voices heard, protest and  resist, resist and resist some more.

I will!  I'll also call him a sexist, egotistical, lying hypocritical bigot.  And BroadwayConcierge riding the high horse of moral superiority is equally hypocritical, so there is no reason whatsoever to appease him in any way.

I'm equally curious to see if anybody can hold a healthy discussion about the merits of Trump's presidency—which I maintain has not been hateful in the slightest—without using asinine terms like "repugnant," "stupid," "idiot," and "moron."

I certainly don't care about your curiosity.  And why hold us to a higher standard when describing Captain Creamsicle than you would demand of the Captain himself?  Any time that thing holding office is the subject of discussion, a "healthy discussion" cannot be achieved because the man himself is poisonous and toxic to our country, its citizens and our allies.

Many of his supporters have never met a Muslim.  Have never had them as neighbors, have never had them as classmates or as classmates for their kids.  They view them as outsiders much as the WASPs did about the Irish, the Irish did about the Italians, the Italians did about the eastern Europeans, etc etc.

That's a wildly false comparison.  I'm sorry, but in this day and age where media and information is available 24/7 at the fingertips of nearly the entirety of the country, I'm hard-pressed to give willful ignorance of American adults a pass.  The people who choose religious bigotry and racism based on stereotypical generalizations also choose not to investigate even the simplest facts or statistics on the subject.  Most of these are the same people demanding the right to discriminate the LGBT community and claim they are victims of religious discrimination themselves.  I will not offer nor accept an excuse for this sort of behavior.  

Right on Mar and MadBrian, the worst way to try and change peoples minds is to call them names, say they are dumb or being lectured by some pampered celebrity.

Oh, please.  Your lot ELECTED A PAMPERED CELEBRITY who has ALWAYS called people names and much much worse.  You think conservatives would consider themselves being "lectured to" by the likes of Jon Voigt, Kanye West, Mike Tyson, Dennis Rodman, Wayne Newton, Mike Ditka, Antonio Sabato Jr, Kelsey Grammer, Jerry Lewis, etc. should they voice support for Trump?  Of course not.

Protests are very powerful and should be encouraged.This is why the Womens march was such a success. But burning flags, racist signs,using Hitler and swastikas as comparisons and violence should be avoided at all costs. they just backfire and cause many who may be open to the message to shut down and turn away

Depending on who you listen to, Trump voters are either adults with real pains and concerns that need to be taken seriously or children who just didn't know better. Do I think it's possible for someone to regret their vote now? Of course. But he is behaving just as he did on the campaign trail- anyone who was paying attention even a little bit knew exactly what they were getting.

“President Donald J. Trump is determined to protect the rights of all Americans, including the LGBTQ community. President Trump continues to be respectful and supportive of LGBTQ rights, just as he was throughout the election,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said in a Tuesday morning statement.

“The president is proud to have been the first ever GOP nominee to mention the LGBTQ community in his nomination acceptance speech, pledging then to protect the community from violence and oppression,” the press secretary added.

“The executive order signed in 2014, which protects employees from anti-LGBTQ workplace discrimination while working for federal contractors, will remain intact at the direction of President Donald J. Trump,” Spicer concluded.

The statement comes a day after rumors began to swirl that Trump would sign an executive order overturning the LGBTQ policy. Asked about the rumor Monday, a White House official said, “That isn’t the plan at this time.”

Not FakeNews.  Try to keep up.  This was reported by BOTH the Washington Post and CNN, neither of which is "fake news" to anyone but the Alternative Facts Trumpers.  And I maintain this is just a smokescreen for when he rolls out FADA, which will accomplish the same things the order wanted to, but will enshrine it into law, making it harder to undo.

With all due respect Petra - it is his very supporters who have used racist signs, Hitler, shouts of "Siegl Heil" and swastikas to get the point across that he is now president. They've spray painted cars, houses and places of worship to show their support for their new leader. 

The Washington Post and CNN are two well respected news organizations.

Trump and his supporters are not interested in fair reporting of the facts. They are only interested in those organizations that tow to their party line and shower them with confetti at their every move. Everything else is fake news, discreditable, the enemy and in your poorly chosen "rhetoric" - liberal lapdogs.

You know you've f**cked up when Liza's Headband - one of the top three most despicable posters on the board - agrees with you.  And the last thing I want to do is have Mister Matt - one of my favorite posters - think I'm an idiot (although I may be).

I hate everything about Trump and his minions.  But I struggle with the reality that a lot of people voted for him and support him.  I don't mean to defend those voters, I'm just trying to understand and I don't think it is possible to assume them away.  And I know they own their choices.

I will leave with my tail between my legs in humiliation. :)

I do not dispute this,  my comment was about protests, marches, rallies in general from Pro-Life to Pro-Choice to BLM etc once any violence, hitler references, etc occurs, it defeats the message as a whole for those on the fence.

No. The liberals do not "do this as well". There have been times Fox News has reported things fairly - - - although for the most part they were hell bent in criticizing President Obama every chance they got. 

The Washington Post may have endorsed almost all - - - liberal candidates but I am sure that whether the elected President was either a Republican or a Democrat that it would not oppose that President if  that President was exercising his or her power for the good of the country and it's citizens. 

But we're taking about Trump here, so if anything that he has done in the past week and a half has not even raised one bit of concern to you and this country then to me that is just extremely disturbing to me. 

I would really love to sit here and debate this all day long with you but I really have to get back to work.

I don't think you're an idiot at all.  I know where you're coming from and what you were trying to say and I don't fault you for the intent.  I personally have just been pushed to a point of lesser forgiveness or compassion for those responsible for this mess.  I felt like you were missing a crucial factor from your equation, but you may feel differently or less severe than me and I wouldn't have a problem with that.  

Supporting and encouraging the actions and behavior of the orange monster...THAT is most definitely a problem.

He'll just go ahead and sign the First Amendment Defense Act which allows for bigotry against gays in the name of their Lord God and His Son Jesus Christ, in full accordance with the Westboro Doctrine: God Hates F*gs.  That law will nullify this little tapdance.

The GOP has a lot invested in not appearing to Hate On The Gays, despite all their actions to the contrary. By waiting until he can sign the FADA into law he can say he's protecting Christians instead of stripping protections from the LGBTQ community, and what with all the recent protests they're not really looking to be pissing off the queers -- we get so combative when our rights are in danger.

Also, it's worth noting that W Bush didn't roll back Clinton's protections for LGBT folks either- and only a fool would call him a crusader for queer rights. FADA is still the end-game, and no one should be shocked when that gets signed into law.

Yes, he will probably use religious freedom as his excuse to impose this policy, but as a Christian, I object to the notion that "God hates gay people". My God is not a hateful God. We were all made in His image. 

I take offense to this.

By signing FADA into law he is not protecting Christians. At least not this Christian.

I will give President Trump the benefit of the doubt if his intention is to enforce Obama's 2014 Executive Order protecting the rights of the LGBTQ community in the workplace.

It's just really hard to know what to believe. He has a bad habit of saying one thing and then doing another. He is rarely consistent.

Neither Fox News, CNN, nor the Washington Post are fake news. They all have an editorial bias that annoys me to varying degrees, but they respect basic journalistic standards in the reporting of facts and do not knowingly spread falsehoods.
