Exploding appliances, and wires bursting into flame

This is really strange. I wonder what could be causing this. They haven't figured it out yet. In Sicily things in several smal towns keep blowing up, scientists thought it was a joke at first until they saw wires burst into flame before their very eyes. Even things that are unplugged burst into flame for no apparent reason. Spoooky.
