FOX Confirms X-FILES Reboot Talks!

The same article talks about a possible "followup" with the original stars and hinting at a possible "reboot". Is the "reboot" a "followup"? Or are they two different things? Is it anything other than "talks" (which have been going on forever)? After the second film, should we be excited about this or skeptical or ambivalent? I loved The X-Files, but this article fails to stir any excitement in me. The word "reboot" always evokes my skinned-knee wince face.

Yeah, it's a bit confusing. But I've been following this for a while and Carter, Anderson & Duchovny have all said they'd be interested in doing this. As far as this goes, I think they're using the term "reboot" the same way it was used for 24, and it's really just another season of the show.

Got it. I'd be far more interested in a continuation than a "reboot". I'll reserve any excitement until it's something past just "talks".

They should do stand alone scary and spooky shows and not bother with the conspiracy mythology since that's pretty much played out and a thousand conspiracy shows have crashed and burned in the intervening years.

Ooohhhhh, I loved the X-Files. Until it went way overboard with the layered conspiracy arcs. Episodic all the way, please.

Purely episodic is boring, though. I need a season arc or else it seems like a waste of time to me. That said, it doesn't need to be a season arc involving a conspiracy... just something.

In the olden days, eons before you were born, before there was ever a Cheers, there were rarely story arcs. And it was HEAVEN.

Unfortunately, there is no heaven (see link). But if that is your idea of heaven, then most shows are still delivering the goods. All the L&Os, CSIs, etc.

But we're talking about X-Files, haterobics. The only possible arc content it can have is conspiracy.
