Here's an interesting (and sensitivie) response from Reza Aslan.

She is such a smug gasbag. I want to have a child now for the first time in my life, simply so I can raise it to believe in a black Santa.
This white lady is PISSED
I really want to read Zealot now. Somehow Asian's conception pretty much follows what I have thought since college when I first left the Church and began a quest for Faith, spending time researching and practicing various religions. Spent nearly 2 years studying in an Ashram.
What I finally realized is we are all a part of the whole. Spirituality comes from within, not from a Church or Organized Religion. It is not the messangers that are important but the message they carry. For me, if it were proven without a doubt, that they had discovered Jesus' tomb and his bones were still there, it would not shake the truths I have found in some of his teachings. Or to be a bit more precise; the teachings attributed to him.
SNAFU -- nicely put. And I agree.
Zealot is an excellent read. He doesn't say anything new that hasn't already been said by many of the historians and liberal Christian theologians who have explored the historical Jesus and even some of the Jewish research into the other "false messiahs" of the Roman era. Christians will find his research reductionist, because it stresses Jesus' zealotry and activism against the Romans and ignores his nonviolence and more spiritual preaching, which Aslan says was layered over the story of the historical Jesus by his followers.
But he is a professor of creative writing as well as an academic, so he is able to weave these ideas into a compelling and convincing narrative.
In many ways, Aslan's Jesus is not very different from the Jesus Bill OI'Reilly depicts in his "Killing Jesus" bestseller...but don't tell that to anyone at Fox News!
The film rights sold to Lionsgate, so we might see a major motion picture version soon.
I would like that to happen, PJ.
Even if Aslan doesn't say anything new, his message seems to bare repeating these days. Although deaf ears may never open to his (and other similar) ideas.
Candy is dandy, but sex with minors is illegal.
Pissed? Oh, please. She's loving it a la Palin.

I'm far too much of a feminist to make a joke out of the fact that she poses near-naked for GQ and spells her name MeGYN.
I am loving this!!!
