re: 'Falling Slowly' from ONCE May Be DQed

Regarding AUGUST RUSH: The song was credited to a group, but the rules state that no more then 3 writers can credited (hence why Beyonce wasn't listed as a nominee for 'Listen' last year). But they've already sorted it out and listed the three main writers as the nominees.

It's happened before, roquat. Even with Best Picture nominees, when they have a slew of credited producers. It's even gotten "ugly" when they have to sort it out amongst themselves and determine who gets it and who doesn't.

I think they should have to submit the potential nominees first... but often they can't agree and wait until the work gets the nod... THEN they duke it out for one of the spots.

Could be kind of interesting to be a fly on the wall in THAT meeting.

It's gotta be awkward! Measuring each others contributions to the project "by the yard," as it were.

At least the Academy doesn't try to decide for them. It really is up to the people who did the work to make the decision.

...and I agree that 9,000 people shouldn't be up for producing a Best Picture or writing a Best Song. Some of those credits are more about maintaining creative relationships, or honoring clauses in contracts, than they are about the actual work. So the Academy caps them off at a certain number. And the nominees need to figure the rest out on their own, at that point.

Falling slowly was written very specifically for Once..
they director/songwriter had met in 2002! and discussed the idea. When the film eventually went into production the song had been recorded for the film and the production took a year or so to release point in which time the song featured on a swell season record and a frames record. the academy are cool with that. its just a blip and wil be resolved today lets hope...

Re: "Accidentally In Love" from Shrek 2, in interviews Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows said that he wrote the song for the film. It's just that CGI movies take so long to be made that the Crows album was probably released during the filmmaking process, and they included the song because it's an awesome song.

I know that's not an issue in this discussion, but I wanted to address it.

And it's just been ruled eligible!
