I have to get this off my chest....
Am I the only one appalled by the trendy fashions lately? Everywhere I turn, it's jeans distressed and tinted to look like one has been rolling in a pool of their own excrement, wrinkled untucked dingy shirts, oversized knit caps, greasy disheveled hair. Or even the I-only-looked-at-my-front-in-the-mirror front-only-tucked shirt.
I keep imagining the design gods sitting on high saying, "Well, it worked. We were able to market a design from a homeless person and they bought it." I guess it goes to prove that the masses will buy anything with a high price advertised on a pretty body. Doesn't anyone want to look nice anymore?

Uggg those jeans that are really dark and then have large white/bleached stripes going down from top to bottom. Why not just buy some cheap jeans and sit in bleach? I hate that....and when girs with really large butts wear them. Hello, it's big enough! No need to excentuate!
I really find it ammusing when I go to the mall and I see 12-15 year old girls all basically dressed in the same clothes: Tight jeans with bleach streeks down them, rolled up on the bottom to show their ankles, tight baby t-shirts in either white, red, or black, Big hoop earings, too much makeup (with lip liner that does not match the lipstick).
I often do a double take just because I'm not sure if I'm seeing more than one peron dressed the same or if I'm losing my vision and therefore seeing double. I know it's nothing new for teens to all dress like their friends, but I always found it to be stupid. My friends used to call me up to tell me what they were wearing so we could all dress alike; and I would always purposely show up in something completely different. It's sad when people lose their individualism because of trends. If I buy something, it's because I like it. Not because somebody told me I should like it!
say what?

"cuz think about it would u wear jus an ugly straight blue jean, need somthing else on it to mkae it like stand out nd interesting".
I had a pair of jeans when I was in college that I wore everyday (yes, I washed them frequently... )They eventually came to have 65 patches that held them together...beautiful multi-colored, multi-material patches of all shapes and sizes... And as if that weren't enough, I embroiderd kaleidocope wheels all over one leg, and enhanced the pocket edges. They were magnificent, those pants. A one of a kind work of art. I still have them, not that I have been able to squeeze into them in a couple of decades.... sigh
My point, Chinkie, is that we (each generation, that is) gravitate toward styles that will set us apart. My generation raised the bar because it tore down so many barriers of what could and couldn't be worn (couldn't...not shouldn't, unfortunately...lol). I don't personally care for jeans with the big bleach splotches, but I understand why they exist. Its something new that can be done to jeans....and when you think about it, it's not that easy to come up with new things that can be done to Levi's, Similarly, when your parents already have multiply-pierced ears and the occasional tattoo, it becomes necessary to find new body parts to pierce and colorize in order to set one generation apart from another.
I've over-simplified, and I don't mean to say that style is *totally* a reflection of generational rebellion...but it is certainly a factor, IMO.

I live in NYC but travel alot and it is amazing to see the differences in Fashion (or lack of) in places like Minneapolis, Chicago, North Dakota etc....it's like some of the places are 2 years behind NYC.
