"If you want to just do stuff like Hairspray that could work."

This kinda disturbs me. Yes, realistically one has to be prepared to be typecast, but some directors are more open than to merely casting actors in roles that say "fat" in the breakdown. Now, that doesn't mean Juliette or Romeo, but there are certainly more options than you seem to mention here.

Though actually, I think fat actors deserve to be considered for certain roles more often than they are. Well, I feel that way about pretty much anyone who isn't white, tall (but not too tall), pretty, and thin. I always appreciate some diversity, to heck if people complain that "A black woman wouldn't have blah blah blah blah in 1932" Unless the show is specifically about weight/color/height, I don't get the major issue.

If you are fat (same as if you are in any of the "minority/otherwise "disadvantaged" groups above) you need to be twice as fierce to be taken just as seriously.

And Just a nitpick, but just because someone is fat does not automatically mean they are unfit:)

there are all types of roles. Character actors rarely fit the conventional definition of "good shape". Your size will most likely have no bearing on whether or not you get accepted to a good school.

I think it will be a little more difficult for a heavyset person to get a place at some of the better drama or MT schools, but they certainly can and do get in. Just not as many. "It" comes in all shapes and sizes. Think of it like musical instruments. Yes, the schools will generally want more flutes, but they'll also need a tuba to help balance out the ensemble. If you're a tuba, just go in to the audition being confident that you're the best tuba you can be at this moment in time and make a case for you being the one they need. It might also help to show that you have the range to transform into a euphonium or a trombone at some of the more competitive programs ... re: Fat People

I think what others have said about being comfortable in your skin is very true. Another thing to consider is (and please forgive me for phrasing it this way), but do you look right in your fat?

There are some people who are overweight, but who just look right. It suits them. In fact, if they are to lose a lot of that weight they may end up losing some of the expressiveness they have naturally at their current weight.

Then there are others whose extra weight actually obscures them. They and their facial expressions, their ability to emote, etc. is lost beneath the extra weight. If that's you, then maybe you do need to lose the weight to do your best work.
