While I doubt Shelly started her own "love" thread, who cares who really started it. She's a very talented composer whose music I've been enjoying for years (and I hope not to come across as a shill as I've also been on this forum for years although less frequently recently). Whoever posted just wanted to share Ms. Bort's music. What's so bad about that?

Maybe I'm weird but when I'm pensive I often think in "one" should do this and in non-personal pronouns. I don't find it that weird at all.

I was in a decent middle/high school version of Sweeney back in the day. Though it is awkward having a chorus of "men" who's voices haven't change. We DID have an age-appropriate Toby though who was quite good:)

"... the female love interest is overweight, and her being overweight has nothing to do with the plot." If weight has nothing to do with the plot then what's the problem? Unless a character is supposed to be the epitamy of all conventional beauty (say a Helen of Troy) why can't the love interest me fat/plain/tall/short etc. That's one of the things I LIKE about some community theatres...not conventional casting. And as long as it's due to talent and not nepotism/bribery I'm all for it.

I saw August last night. And while Babara is one of the showier roles as written, Ms. Day was brilliant.

She looks and sounds very nervous. I bet that was a big part of it.

It's way unfair to use American Idol to judge someone's talent. They've had finalists that frankly were unpleasant to listen to (which I doubt anyone would say of Ms. Weiss's voice at the very least) and have cut fabulous singers. It isn't about talent, it's about what "types" they want that particular year and if they can find people to fit them. It's carefully crafted, not a true talent competition.

I can't think of a young Hollywood actress I'd like to see as Eliza. Maybe Amy Adams? OOo the thought of Amy Adams and Hugh Laurie makes me smile ear to ear.

Because for some reason there is an association of "pretty" with "good", and fat in this day and age is considered "ugly". Even if your face is pretty, most people will say "you have such a pretty face" instead of saying you're so pretty. Like their face is the only beautiful part about them. Go back to Dickens. For the most part the good people were beautiful, the bad people ugly. It's sad we haven't come that far since the 1800's. Why do leading ladies need to be thin in general? Really mos...
