What is your favorite character from a Mel Brooks film?

My Vote: Frau Bloucher (sp?) in Young Frankenstein

Roger DeBris from The Producers. When he stepped out from behind the thing and had a dress on...I was not expecting that. It was...it was great.

Now, Carmen from the movie...that's a whole 'nother story. That facial hair scares the hell out of me.

It's Lone Starr's half man/half dog sidekick, BARF. ("I'm my own best friend!")

I always found Barf annoying and overly obnoxious.

The concierge lady from the Producers.

Concierge : Who d'ya want?

Leo Bloom : I beg your pardon?

Concierge : Who d'ya want? Nobody gets in the building unless I know who they want. I'm the "concierge". My husband used to be the "concierge", but he's dead. Now I'M the "concierge".

Max Bialystock : We are seeking Franz Liebkind.

Concierge : Oh... the Kraut! He's on the top floor, apartment 23.

Max Bialystock : Thank you...

Concierge : ...But you won't find him there... he's up on the roof with his boids. He keeps boids. Dirty... disgusting... filthy... lice-ridden boids. You used to be able to sit out on the stoop like a poyson. Not anymore! No, sir! Boids!... You get my drift?

Leo Bloom : We... uh... get your "drift". Thank you, madam.

Concierge : I'm not a "madam"! I'm a "concierge"!

Margo...loved this minor character in the movie. I loved her pronunciation...'concee-urge'

My favorite Brooks character has to be Hedley Lamar in 'Blazinig Saddles', with a close second being Dr. Thorndyke in 'High Anxiety' and the bell boy in the same movie.

I just saw the movie last night. Have to agree with you about Carmen Ghia, scared the crap out of me the first time he appeared.

I think my favorite has to be the black sheriff from Blazing Saddles or "Princess Vespa"..or maybe Dot Matrix.

Vespa: "Who are you!?!"
Barf: "Barf!"
Dot Matrix: "not in here mister, this is a Mercedes!""

I gotta go with Latrine (Tracey Ullman) in Robin Hood Men in Tights

"They changed your name TO Latrine?"

"Yeah. It used to be SH*Thouse."

LOL Classic

Ah, yes, the concierge lady. Wonder if they had a scene like that in early readings of the musical.

I hope they put the concee-urge back in fot the new movie. Maybe as a cameo for Ann Bancroft?

My favorite minor character in a Mel Brooks film is the blind hermit in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, played by Gene Hackman.

I originally thought you meant roles he himself has played....

Personally, I love Rabbi Tuckman (Robin Hood...)

What...fagelehs?

Otherwise, I'm partial to Hedley Lamar and Lily Von Schtupp (having seen it when I was very young, my mother had to explain to me why they were laughing at Lily's name...)

In History...Empress Nympho. If only for a specific scene of firm buttocks.

Oh, so many. I heart Mel Brooks. It's good to be da king.

Anne Bancroft as the Concee-Urge in the film is a brilliant idea! I saw Mel and Anne coming out of Whole Foods in the new Time-Warner Center and it's been my best and most exciting celebrity sighting yet! Of course, I'm still waiting to see Woody Allen and Stephen Sondheim! Swoon!

Gov. Le Petomaine: Hey! I didn't get a 'harumph" outta that guy!

Can't you see that man is a ni?

I also wanted to mention Madeline Kahn in "Young Frankenstein":

"Oh. Where you going?... Oh, you men are all alike. Seven or eight quick ones and then you're out with the boys to boast and brag. YOU BETTER KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. Oh... I think I love him."

Plus, Peter Boyle doing "PUTTIN' ON THE 'RIIIIII......" cracks me up every time.

Nurse Diesel will always be my favorite.

"Those who are tardy do not get fruit cup."

"Perhaps I've been a bit too haaaarsh..."

Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke : As I was saying, it came to my attention that just before Dr. Ashley's untimely death, he was planning to make some very big changes here at the institute. Do any of you know specifically what those changes might be?

Dr. Wentworth : Well, for one thing, he wanted to change...

Nurse Diesel : The drapes.

Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke : The drapes?

Nurse Diesel : The drapes. He wanted to change the drapes in the Psychotic Game Room.

Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke : That was the extent of the big change, the... drapes?

Nurse Diesel : Oh, yes. Dr. Ashley felt that color has a great deal to do with the well-being of the emotionally disturbed.

My favorite is Leo in The Producers, as done by Gene Wilder not MB.

My favorite line though is from The History of the World (not a great movie). Madeline Kahn as the Empress Nympho:[to her litter bearers] Could you *please* step on the same foot at the same time! My tits are falling off!
