What is your favorite theme song from a motion picture. My all time favorite hands-down has to be "To Sir, With Love" written by Don Black and Marc London. It was performed by Lulu who was also in the film. It was a surprise to discover that it was not even nominated for a Best Original Song Oscar. What was wrong with those people?
Opening Credits to "The Lion in Winter"
Tubular Bells, "Exorcist"
I really like the Beetlejuice theme. The DVD has a soundtrack-only audio track where you can listen to just the orchestrations. Great feature.
I think my favorite theme song will always be the 2001:space odyssey, theme. (aka, "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss)
Taxi Driver
Hamlisch's variation of Joplin in The Sting
Fargo
Goldfinger
North By Northwest
One of my favorites is the instrumental for the Anakin vs. Obi Wan/Palpatine vs. Yoda battle in Star Wars Episode III. Absolutly amazing.
oops, for some reason my first post didn't take so I posted again.
Now the original is there - go figure.

TOP 5:
1) E.T. (from the bike chase through to the end of that movie is some of the most amazing music ever written for the screen)
2) Braveheart (The theme music that plays near the beginning when young William Wallace sees his dead father. It's also the same music that plays over the end credits. Some of the most hauntingly beautiful music I've heard)
3) Philadelphia (Neil Young's version of 'Philadelphia')
4) The Godfather (Awesome)
5) Schindler's List (The man knows how to write a movie theme like no other. What can I say?)
Runners UP: Glory, The Mission, Gone with the Wind,
The only one that comes to mind is the theme from The Devil Wears Prada.
I think it sums up the movie quite well.

Forrest Gump (cliche, I know)
Hans Zimmer is my fave film composer, so pretty much anything he's ever done (i.e. THELMA & LOUISE, A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, THE LION KING). His "Thunderbird" from T&L kills me.
Also, JURASSIC PARK, SCHINDLER'S LIST, and E.T. John Williams is a genius.
And, of course, GONE WITH THE WIND. especially "Tara's Theme." RIP Max Steiner.
