Since you mentioned Shelley Winters, have you seen her turn in Wild In The Streets?
One of the absolute wackiest (as in LSD influenced) movies ever. Check her out in it, I garauntee you won't be disappointed!

I always kind of liked Jobeth Williams in POLTERGEIST...funny, courageous, sensitive, sexy, and apparently knows where to get some good weed.

Taz--I haven't seen Wild In the Streets, but it sounds like I need to!

While I'm in an animated state of mind after Mrs. Jumbo, how about...

Bambi's Mother in Bambi
Lady Tremaine in Cinderella
The Queen in Snow White
Duchess in The Aristocats

...and another non-animated Disney favorite: Glynis Johns in Mary Poppins

Juanita Moore in Imitation of Life
Lana Turner in Imitation of Life and Peyton Place
Marjorie Bennett in ...Baby Jane
Gladys Cooper in Now, Voyager

...and, of course, Richard Roundtree in Shaft

I agree with many of the choices (especially best12's entire list), but I'd like to add...

the one and only, Kay Miniver.

doodle---Shutcho' mouth!

Thanks bw86! I agree with Mrs. Miniver too.

...and then there's the "Gertrudes"

Eileen Herlie (1948 ) -- Myrtle Fargate on "All My Children!"
Julie Christie (1996)
Judy Parfitt (1969)
Glenn Close (1990)
Diane Venora (2000)

And dozens of others dating back to the stone age of cinema.

B12B,
this is one of those movies that you see and wonder what the hell they were smoking when they made it. And I'm telling you Shelley is hillarious! I included the imdb link so you can read for yourself what it's about. But really, it must be seen to be believed.
I also included the amazon link to order it if you're interested.
I don't believe they are still printing this movie, so once it's gone that's it. Every library needs this title!

This is your brain on Shelley Winters on LSD

Cool, Taz!

lildogs---As long as we're talking Barbara Harris... I'd like to add Ms. Harris AND Jodie Foster (together) for Freaky Friday.

And while I'm in the Disney neighborhood again, I'd like to add Dorothy Maguire for The Swiss Family Robinson.

I WAS tempted to use Barbara twice, though Disney-wise, I'd add Maureen from PARENT TRAP.

Heck, throw Shelley Winters from LOLITA and Ethel from IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD in there too!

Ethel, YES!

All excellent choices.

What a killer Mother's Day Film Festival we could have with everyone's favorite "motherly" performances on this thread!

Gotta be my favorite.

Oh.. yes... runner up is Ayllene Gibbons as Mr. Joyboy's mother in The Loved One.

Do TV movies count?

If so, I'll add Holly Hunter for The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom.
