Okay, so I'm visiting NYC Thursday-Sunday and my friend brought up the idea to try and get some GOOD ice cream and chocolate while we're there. We'll mainly be in the Theatre District, so if anyone has favorites for ice cream or chocolates, it'd be a wonderful help. Addresses would be great, too.
(By the way, I'm INSANELY EXCITED to be going.)
I've heard of people coming in the city for NY Cheesecake...or NY hot dogs...or even NY Pizza...but Ice Cream???
Ben & Jerry's on 8th and 44th street, I believe. One day a year they have B'way stars giving out ice cream. But, that's sometime in April.

This isnt theater district, but I love it. "Emack and Bolios" is on Amsterdam and 79th
Sorry, forgot the address. 60th and 3rd.
Sarabeth's has exquisite ice cream. There's a Sarabeth's on the upper west side (423 Amersterdam Avenue) and one on the upper east side.
It's worth a trip over to the East side for a frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity (225 East 60th).
Is Rumpelmeyer's still around?

Well, we know where to get cheesecake (if I liked it). And we love ice cream. And we're going to be in New York. And we live in a very small area. So...we figured there must be some great ice cream in New York.

Not in the theatre district, but in the Village - what's that incredible handmade chocolate shop on Christopher Street across from the Lucille Lortel Theatre?
Go to Coldstone on 42nd Street, or go to Serendipity's!!!
How much does the frozen hot chocolate cost, and what is it like? I went to Serendipity's the afternoon my flight left New York and the wait was so long I didn't get a chance to sample the ware.
Definitely, Coldstone Creamery on 42nd between Broadway and 8th, but be prepared for long lines, especially after and right before shows. If you're worried about your weight at all, Tasti-d-Lite is amazing, and they're everywhere.
Coldstone's is great but you HAVE to try to get to Mary's Dairy in the West Village. I know it's on West 4th somewhere - totally worth the trek!
Cafe La Fortuna just east of Columbus Ave. It's between Lincoln Center and 72nd St.
Can't remember the exact street, maybe someone here can help.
I've seen Mary Tyler Moore there. Love the Lemon Ice!
I make a mean mocha/chip ice cream...come to K's house
*ahem* you DO? I didn't know this WHY?
Don't forget Ciao Bella for delicious gelato. Not quite what you'd get in Italy, but better than most ice cream.
I think KMF needs to have us all over for mocha chip icecream some evening!!! YAY!
