Maya Rudolph?
Amy Poehler?
Tina Fey?
Rachel Dratch?
This is a touch one.

LOL Gov! I guess it's time for another eye exam.
Wrong board, wrong word. I need a nap!
But touching is good. :)
PS. Love Cheri too.

Even just limiting it to the current cast is tough. If you factor in the women from decades past it's well nigh impossible. Gilda, Lorraine, Danitra, Molly, Cheri, Jan, Nora, Ana.
Of the current cast, I adore Maya, but if I had to pick just one, it would be Tina. She's smart and funny and sarcastic and I got to see her host a major gala at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal last summer and she is just as fantastic out of the SNL element as she is in it. (Rachel dropped in as special guest that night, and she was fab too.)

Right now? Tina Fey has more talent in her little finger than the rest of the cast does combined.
Of all time? Nobody can make me laugh until I cry like Mrs. Radner.

Gilda Radner, Jane Curtain, Jan Hooks, Tina Fey... laugh out loud hysterical stuff.
Jan Hooks really is amazing. She and Phil Hartman were incredible when they were partnered in a scene. And, I loved her guest appearances on "Third Rock from the Sun"...
Has she ever done Broadway?

Of that group--Maya
But, all time--Molly Shannon
All of those women that have been listed are hilarious. I more often enjoy the women on SNL over the men--in any given cast.

Posted: 9/6/04 at 1:04pmGilda, Gilda, Gilda!!!!! There have been many brilliant ladies--even in the flop seasons (Janeane Garafolo, Christine Ebersole, Joan Cusack, the late Danitra Vance, just to name a few)--on SNL that are worth mentioning...they all rock. Particularly underrated was Jan Hooks, who could switch from Corazon Aquino to Ann Margaret in a matter of seconds. I loved her...

Tina Fey is an amazing writer, and has done beautifully with weekend updates.
I ADORE her.
But...
When she's in skits, her brilliance is not as well-displayed.
She's much better at writing them than performing in them.
For skits, I'm a big fan of Maya Rudolph.

Posted: 9/6/04 at 2:55pmHaving seen Tina perform in several skits, live, in front of an actual audience, I would have to disagree strongly with the backwards facing ~ff~. Like most Second City alums, that's one of her real strengths, and she doesn't actually get much of a chance to be in them on SNL, which has always been true of the Update anchors.
