When'd you see her?

I thought she did a very good job! It wasn't Tony winning, but compared to other popstars that are now on Bway - she was good. I will never forget the scene when she finds out her father died...she did it so well (at my performance), she was actually crying...

I saw Deborah a lot in her run... and you saw her crying??? You probably mistook the glitter on her face for tears

I only saw Deborah crying twice and that was in the last week of the show. Don't get me wrong, she did a great job as Aida and I liked her but she couldn't act. And let's just say Heather would have kicked her ass in a direct comparison.

She was sufficient and did better than the other stunt casting in the role. However, we should be comparing her to the other actresses in the role and not just the pop stars. Its upsetting when people settle for less and say "well she was better than the pop stars" Of course she was, those other people sucked. Not to difficult to top that.

Hence my avoidance of Deborah until the very, very end... I went to performances that she wasn't doing. I couldn't subject myself to a poorly acted Aida.

Well, yeah, Heather was better...

I went in her last month...sat front row...yes, saw her crying during that scene and she had such emotion during Dance of the Robe and The Gods Love Nubia....

Maybe she was having a good day, Adam was very off...

I'm not just saying that because I like Adam and I have seen Adam probably too many times live. But I'm sorry, he has to be one of the most consistent performers ever, the guy just doesn't have any 'off' nights, especially not in Aida.

Looks like we won't agree on a lot today, jmaclover....

I know how to get past the Adam impasse - I preferred Patrick Cassidy in the role.

DGrant, I always wondered how he did in the role. Saw him in 42nd Street and liked him. But thought his voice might have not been right for Radames and he looks a bit old too if I'm not mistaken. Would have liked to see him

You don't have to appologize. I know he's not perfect... just don't bash him, and I'll be alright. I'm in a non-confrontational, let-people-step-all-over-me mood today, anyway.

My Adam love is at a very big high today, though. Yay Adam.

QM - he certainly didn't push the 'rock' aspect of the songs - it was much more legit. As for the age question, remember he was doing it with Simone on the tour - and their ages matched VERY well (even with Kelly as Amneris, who was WONDERFUL, by the way ). There really isn't any reason they couldn't be a little older - in fact, it gave a little 'heft' to the proceedings.

Well, everyone has off nights...

Adam cracked and sounded worn out. BUT I was still so happy to be seeing him...

Maybe Deborah was in good spirits...

I've heard him crack, even on days when he was otherwise quite 'on.' It was just that one note. I have heard him sound tired on VERY rare occasion, but c'est la vie. It happens.

Thanks for that, DGrant... I would have liked to see someone doing it the more traditional way, for comparison. I always thought that Will Chase and Cheyenne Jackson tried too hard to copy this 'rocker thing' that Adam has going on. I know Will from Miss Saigon and would have liked him to do it 'his way'.

QM - I only have tapes of when Simone was on the Today show with the Broadway cast, and they had Will Chase do Radames that day (which didn't work very well, to my taste.)

On a side note, that was one of the classier decissions I've ever seen a performer make. Heather was still doing the Broadway run when that Today show gig came up, but she was getting ready to leave. VERY few performers would have given up the chance at national exposure, but Ms. Headley let Simone do it because 1. it was better exposure for what the show was GOING to be in the very near future, and 2. Heather had had so much publicity that she thought it would be good for Simone to be able to get some. VERY classy!

I agree with you on Will too. I thought his acting skills were far more superior than Adam's but him trying to be this rocker (that he just isn't) didn't work for me either.

No one can possible have any problems with our Emcee
