That was scary. My ankle hurts. What is the best thing for it.

I think the rule of thumb is to ice it and keep it elevated for the 24 hours directly following the injury - after that, ice won't do you any good, but heat will. I think.

A heating pad will make it swell more.

Posted: 4/21/05 at 3:42pmI hope you didn't sprain it, but if there's any chance you did, be sure to keep your ankle immobile with something like a compression bandage. Make a figure eight around your foot and ankle. That way you won't do any further damage to it.
