Yeah. They actually make a case for this in Salon.com....chekkitout:

No, I'm not kidding. Seemingly inspired by the breakout success of "Jackass: The Movie," the producers of the long-running MTV reality show "The Real World" decided to test out their formula in a multiplex environment with "The Real Cancun," a jaw-dropping spectacle of American youth gone preposterously idiotic. The fact that "The Real Cancun" was shot in only 10 days during March of 2003, concurrent with our country's invasion of Iraq, makes it one of the more unintentionally brilliant statements of hypocrisy of the decade. That it was released in theaters only five weeks later makes it a legitimate poster child for the burgeoning digital revolution of the early 21st century. As a sloppy assemblage of spoiled, attractive young party animals gather to do body shots, dance and make out like horny banhees and banshees, all hope for the future is tossed away like an empty bottle of Cuervo.

Truth be told, I had planned to stay very far away from "The Real Cancun" based on the advertising, but a friend highly recommended it after attending a sneak preview. She was right. I saw "The Real Cancun" three times in the theater, bringing different friends every time. Most good movies have three or four moments that make you say "Wow." By my count, "The Real Cancun" has 24. While I certainly wouldn't consider it one of the best films of the decade -- or the worst, for that matter -- I firmly believe it belongs in the canon. "The Real Cancun" is a disturbingly relevant historical document.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Well, I'd rather sit through it than any of the other films they name-- except maybe Almost Famous. That wasn't horrible.

That whole article is merely a bunch of critics playing the usual critic's game: Who can pick the most outrageous hunk of pooh and make a case for it's greatness. Not that it isn't a difficult game- being the most pretentious of a very pretentious bunch isn't easy.

Whose hypocrisy is it exposing? Did those drunken wannabe famewhores start the war in Iraq?

The only movie I'd agree with is Eternal Sunshine. Most of them that I saw from that list were just ridiculous. Inland Empire? For Christ's sake, that movie was just a waste of everything.

And I had blocked out AI until I saw it mentioned on this list. *Shudder*

Synecdoche, New York was okay, though.

Well, I'd agree with the Pixar oeuvre.

As a sloppy assemblage of spoiled, attractive young party animals gather to do body shots, dance and make out like horny banhees and banshees, all hope for the future is tossed away like an empty bottle of Cuervo.

Ummm...that sentence could describe any number of things aired with regularity on MTV.

I do remember the hype and I remember how it was such a major failure at the box office despite it getting plenty of publicity and marketing from MTV. I actually think now it could be #1 in the box office today.

There Will Be Blood is my pick.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD is my pick, as well.

MAGNOLIA, MULHOLLAND DRIVE, SYRIANA and INLAND EMPIRE would round out my top 5. So shoot me, I am a David Lynch and PTA fanboy.

And PRS, with Lynch you either get it or you don't. I can't imagine anyone enjoying INLAND EMPIRE not knowing roughly what to expect going in. I am a huge, huge, huge Lynch fan and it took me 3 viewings before I understood how brilliant it truly is, same for MULHOLLAND DRIVE but that is much more mainstream. It's certainly not for everyone, or even most people. It's barely even for SOME people, lol.

Magnolia was 1999. I love Paul Thomas Anderson and he was robbed for TWBB in both directing and screenplay.

Pan's Labyrinth, City of God, The Dark Knight, The Queen, Hot Fuzz (lord, I love that movie), Michael Clayton (I may be the only one who thinks that), Kill Bill (I consider the two movies one big package), The Royal Tenenbaums, and Amelie round out my Top Ten- though not quite in that order.
