I've got the opportunity to see an advanced screening of Finding Neverland this Thursday. Has anyone heard about it? What's the buzz? All I know is it's got Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, and it's about JM Barrie (Peter Pan author).
Yay or nay?

Premiere Magazine gave it four stars. There's sure to be some great performances from Depp and Winslet.
Yay. I'm anticipating this film. It's got Oscar buzz written all over both Depp and Winslet's roles I've heard. Hope it's true...

WOW. I work at a market research company, so we're always previewing new movies. We did this....I don't even remember, quite a few months ago.
It looked like it had potential if you like those kinds of movies.
Freddie Highmore -- who stars Charlie in the upcoming "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" -- also has great buzz for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. Winslet is actually less talked about than Depp, Highmore or Christie.
Definitely a YAY. I saw a test screening about two and a half months ago at an arthouse cinema in Atlanta. It was really amazing. The director had a Q&A session afterwards. It was really interesting to hear about the creation of the film after seeing it.
In short, go see it.

I think it's going to be a GREAT film.
Dustin Hoffman also has small buzz.
FINDING NEVERLAND was filmed before PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. Yes - years ago. Miramax held the release for several reasons: they wanted it released in the Fall for Oscar buzz; they didn't want it in theatres at the same time as PETER PAN; they didn't want it in theatres during the same time as the indie film NEVERLAND; and they didn't want negative publicity from Michael Jackson's case.
The film was originally entitled NEVERLAND - then changed to J.M. BARRIE'S NEVERLAND - finally FINDING NEVERLAND.
The film is VERY historically innacurate - but this is the only flaw. A beautiful film that will have you in tears!
Elton John had written a song for the film, "Peter's Song" - but Miramax cut it because in 90% of the advanced public screenings, audiences remarked that it was awful. It was also removed from the CD soundtrack.
Its based off of the play "The Man Who Was Peter Pan" by Alan Knee (Little Women the Musical).

I'm definately looking forward to it.
Looks great and I think I'll see it.
It's been ages since I've been to the movies.
I went to a screening not too long ago.
Award-worthy performances.
Oh thanks. I'm sure I will see it now.
My sister saw it tonight at an advanced screening and said it was fantastic!
It looks amazing, I can't wait to see it. When does it open in theaters?
It opens in the US on Thanksgiving weekend, but it opened here in the UK this weekend and I saw it on Friday.
Absolutely glorious movie. Johnny Depp will hopefully win the Oscar for his beautifully understated performance, Freddie Highmore is jaw dropping as Peter Llewellyn-Davies, Kate Winslet is fine too, though she doesn't really stand out. My only problem with the whole movie was it felt quite quick. Like it had originally been longer and more leisurely but then re-edited. But I still loved it. And I wept like a small girl with a skinned knee for the whole of the last 15 minutes.

the "neverland" scenes in the trailers look very beautiful.
It is a beautiful film. I saw a screening 3 weeks ago. Very emotional.
I have been seeing the coming attractiions for a few weeks now. It should be opening soon. I love Johnny Depp in anything!!!!!!
I just saw an advance screening of this yesterday and it is freaking awesome!!!! Not only Johnny Depp, but Kate Winslet and everything about the entire movie was great. When the film ended, most of the female portion of the audience was in tears, but it wasn't a tragic sad, it was an uplifting sad...if that makes any sense. SEE THIS MOVIE!!!
I'm surprised that someone described it as being quick. I remember it feeling quite sluggish at times. I wonder if they re-edited after I saw it.
See......IT.......TIFF......*Spazes* Common it has Johnny Depp in it. Also have I ever steared you in the wrong direction before Tiff?
Just got back from a screening a few hours ago. Some thoughts, if anyone cares...
I thought the movie itself was average-to-slightly-above-mediocre, however the performances were the real stars. Johnny, Kate and the 3 kids are great.
The plot was fairly interesting although I agree with whoever said it's a bit sluggish at times. I thought it sometimes veered into being over-sentimental, but it's one of those few films were the second half is better than the first. The cinematography and particularly the art design was beautiful, but I found the story itself illicited a few eye rolls.
Nevertheless, I was misty-eyed when ****spoilers***** the orphans are watching their very first play, Peter Pan, and they looked to rapt and awed. God, that was sweet.
Any thoughts from anyone else who saw the show?
From Sunday's breaking news:
"Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is plotting a major Broadway, New York, musical based on the Johnny Depp film Finding Neverland.
The Hollywood heavyweight - who co-owns production giants Miramax with his brother Bob - is eager to adapt the biopic of Peter Pan author JM Barrie for the stage.
Weinstein's spokesman confirms: "Harvey's considering it."
"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers
Well he shouldn't. And it was me who said the film felt quite quick. I honestly felt that it seemed as if the original cut ran like 150 minutes or something and they'd cut it down to 101. There was not a huge amount of build up before the plot kicked in properly and so many events seemed glossed over.
