When I was single, my mom kept trying to fix me up with this really good-looking guy who was Jewish. I tried to tell her he was gay and she said that Jewish men could not be gay because the religion places so much importance on family. My mom (who has been deceased since 1993) was born in 1933 and she was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She never said the word gay- she used to say "fagele" (pronounced fay-guh-la). She used to use a lot of yiddish. She was also a huge Liberace fan because she was a pianist and she actually got to meet him once.
